Five year plan after graduation (2012 – 2017):
- Save up enough money to pay off my student loan, and put it into a high interest saving account.
- Then save up enough money for a deposit on a house – any house will do, just to get into the housing market.
- Work abroad in various places, including somewhere exotic – taking my dog of course! I’d love to see India, Nepal, Africa, Alaska, the pacific islands… while I’m still relatively young and independent.
- Learn to sail a boat, now that I can afford it.
- Start saving for my retirement, even just $20 per week, using the power of compound interest.
- Be a great auntie to my friends’ kids.
Ten year plan after graduation (2017 – 2022):
- Build my own eco-friendly home, design it and make the stained glass for it myself.
- Travel some more! Go to Antarctica, Europe, all the places I haven’t been yet.
- Back to school to do a specialist degree
- Sail around the world, or at least do a big international trip.
- Possibly have a couple of kids before I get too old – if I can find the love of my life to have kids with between now and then!
- Spoil my newly retired parents, who have sacrificed a lot for me over the years.

So it seems a bit silly to drive the car to uni. Biking will be cheaper and more fun and better for the environment. I mean, uni is only 5km away, so it shouldn’t take more than 20 or 30 minutes to get there.
First I need to get my bike fixed though. Or maybe get a new bike. Or even a skateboard, I guess! And find a helmet.
Plus I need to learn to get up a little earlier. And get over my mild fear of biking, since I had a few accidents last time I tried… faceplanting on the asphalt hurts!

I’m a pretty shy person, and really don’t like to be confrontational, so I often have problems standing up for myself and being assertive. Which means I often end up getting walked all over, since I’m so reluctant to offend other people.
To me, this goal suggests standing up for yourself and what you believe in, but without being rude or abrasive. It’s going on my list for sure!
