agh, still working on this one. have some fear about it, I guess. cool thing is that I discussed it with my wife who’s considering geting one too (not necessarily a matching one mind you).

still working on this. my idea is to put together each of my journal entries that mention their names and give it to them once they’ve graduated from high school (arbitrary but it’s about the age I imagine they might actually read them). I am also already emailing them regularly (though most of them can’t read yet) so they can look back at my emails to them when they are old enough.
been doing this for the past 2 months now. It happened easily after my wife enrolled our kids into soccer and t-ball teams at the local YMCA. Now whenever they go to practice I cheer them on then work out for 45 minutes – the Y has free babysitting while I workout. All things said I workout 3 times a weeek and that’s PERFECT!
not sure there is a specific activity I use to gauge this one. I’m tempted to say it’s more of a state of mind but that probably only partially true.
Hmmm, I guess I could plan more wknd outings with the kids? count how often I smile at home with the family? (I don’t smile enough at home, though I smile alot at work – what’s up with that?) I guess that’s a good a start as any.
1. watching TV
2. mindlessly surfing the net
now the trick is to stop these…
I’ll try it this way…
1. measure – how many hours per week?
2. decide how much is okay
3. limit my time to only those
i make entries in a wiki type journal and it’s working great so far. my kids are really tiny but I’m sure the near daily entries will make for a great book in the future. and b/c I use a wiki file I can search for comments on any particular kid and customize it for him/her.
it’s a great idea and it’s working well. only thing is that my kids are so young it’ll be years before I can call it complete. my plan is to write until they’re 18yo then present them with all my life lessons and observations about them growing up.
this idea is ripe with possibilities and it’s really lots of fun to think and write about them
with 4 kids in the house my best option is waking up early to study but it’s hard b/c … well, you have to wake up early!
still, I’ve been getting better by just doing it for about an hour a day for the past 2 weeks or so. not sure when this is ‘done’ but I’ll reevaluate when I hit 1 hour a day for about 1 month… let’s see that would about the end of this month… 9/31/2008.
I’ll let you know how I do.
read through ‘The Memory Book’ a few times in my life but it’s hard to implement the ideas there in real time. Re-read it this weekend and I will try again… outline of methods includes Associate (make it ridiculous), Link, Peg. Trying to make useful mnemonics at my job with lukewarm success. We’ll see.
