It took far too long to settle on the conclusion I came to first in November 2001 at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao: I need to have my own business.
By the time my friend Jimmy and I had settled in for our week in Barcelona I had very nearly worked out the details of the business, almost down to the brand identity.
So here it is over four years later and I am still in the deciding phase.
The other day I was telling a friend about all the decisions facing me, all the options including every possible risk – options including going back to work for an employer.
He looked at me and asked a simple question, would I be happier having to make the compromises facing me in working for an employer, or the challenges facing me in building a successful business.
Decision made.
