3 cheers for yoga 3 years ago

must… stretch… hamstrings… I’m fairly close on this goal. I can hold my fingers flat on the floor without terrible strain. Its the palms that I need to work on. I think if I quit running, I could accomplish this goal in a week, since every time I go out, it makes me REALLY stiff… Ah well. Push on.

Day 9 done 3 years ago

I just realized that my day 30 falls the same day I go to mexico… Thats some interesting timing…

Today yoga was a pleasure… I definitely prefer holding the poses for a minute or so to attempting to flow through them in 10 minutes. My roommates boyfriend saw me, and mentioned that he used to do yoga, and always wanted to start up again. I may have a partner soon. I hope he can teach me new things. At the very least, he can help me hunt for new tapes.

7-7-7-7-7-7 3 years ago

I had only planed to run 5×7min today (wasn’t feeling so great, tried my 8min at noon and had to lie down after 20 minutes. Way too hot to jog…), but I caught my stride and ran an extra 7. Had another epiphany today.

A couple of days ago, I had my first one. Namely: Jogging = a certain amount of struggle. Its not like walking… You WILL pant, and have to concentrate on breathing, and sweat, and ache, and have to force your legs to keep moving sometimes. This is something you must expect, and push through.

The epiphany I had today is… stupid, but something I apparently didn’t grasp. Jogging Is A Full Body Effort. Its not just trying to make your legs move while crooking your arms out of the way. Its a full body stride. Drop your shoulders, move your arms in nice arcs, keep your back straight, lean forward (gravity makes you move forward then.. its just a matter of your legs keeping up), and use your feet as springs to continue the momentum, not break your movement then shove you forward. If you keep this in mind, jogging becomes MUCH easier.

I’m happy with my progress so far.
