How I did it: It kind of snuck up on me.  It helped that I focused on joining groups of women and hanging out with the women in a mixed group more often.  (Even though I'm still generally more comfortable around men rather than women if I don't know the person.)  I also learned to do some of the more girly things like give advice, be over the top excited about some things and talk about problems forever.  I've even started to like d… Read how I did it…

Another attempt

I talked with a man about writing songs. He said he started out just doing humorous songs for his buddies. That way it wasn’t so intimidating. Eventually he worked up to writing serious songs.

I really found that helpful. In fact it demystified the process enough that I actually did get a song worked up that wasn’t humorous. I don’t consider it finished yet, but it’s more or less a song.

I do want to do a humorous one eventually also.

Finally figured it out

Adult play’s not the same as kids’ play, but it’s a similar dynamic. I figured out that the best adult play is to rebel against the things I don’t like in my life (as playfully and creatively as possible) while embracing what I do like.

Too much time is spent whining.

When I don’t like something, that’s an indication of a play-possible moment. Rather than complain, I can innovate, turn things inside out, do it differently, and find a way to play. It’s joyful anarchy.

I’ve found out that they have regional burning man events. That would be much more doable for us than driving out to the desert. Maybe next year?
