Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Buy a House (read all 3 entries…)
It needs a lot of work

But it is ours and slowly but surely we will make it somewhere lovely to live…

promote Allen Carr's Easyway to other 43ers who want to stop smoking
I recommend this to everyone

Over two years later and not a single cigarette.

Work in publishing
Almost there!

I have accepted my new job working in the marketing department of a big publishing company – once I have served out my notice at my old job I can tick this one off the list!

own my own land
So, buying a house is out.

We have the downpayment for a reasonably priced flat, but there don’t seem to be any reasonably priced flats in London. SO instead we are now looking to buy a 2-3 acre plot near my boyfriend’s parents house out in the sticks. We won’t need to take out a mortgage – our downpayment should pay for the land in full – and we will probably get a better return on our investment than if we just kept the money in the bank. We could buy a house out there, but we would have to rent it out as we wouldn’t have money to cover our rent and the mortgage, and rental properties are not hugely popular in the area that they live in. The extra bonus is that in a few years time, we may have the money to build something on the land – wouldn’t that be something! I think we are going to follow JD from Scrubs and build the patio first – that way we can enjoy the land over the summer and have friends over to dinner on the porch.

Watch "The Wizard of Oz" at the same time as listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon"

I bought a dodgy videocasette on ebay with the two merged together. Actually it was quite cool, but only for the first play of the record, after that it’s not that interesting anymore.

Learn more about Latin American History
The book is in the post

I ordered a book about this from Amazon, and it should be arriving soon. The things that have happened in the continent over the last century or so are so interesting, but I don’t know any detail, so am going to try to do some learnin’

keep track of every book i read this year (read all 2 entries…)
All consuming is the key

Makes this very easy to do.

learn bookbinding (read all 2 entries…)
the course was cancelled

damn. but i guess it was kind of expensive and since i have been liking my real job a lot more latlely, the expense might have been a bit much.

write a book (read all 9 entries…)

I finished my novel today. It’s not the most amazing piece of literature, but it’s actually not that bad. I think I might try and edit it at some point next year and get it in better shape and then publish myself a copy. Yay

write a book (read all 9 entries…)

I’ve written 40,000 words and have 7 days to go. I like the main character, I like the plot – I may actually carry on with this after the first 50,000 word draft is finished! Hooray!

beat up Keira Knightly (read all 2 entries…)
She's still annoying but

I’m taking her off my list.

learn bookbinding (read all 2 entries…)
I start in January

I just signed up for a bookbinding course at St Martin’s College. I’m really excited. I have got a BIG idea of what I actually want to do with my life, and this will form a part of it. After this I will take another 2 courses, and I already know two people whose photographs I will take to build up my portfolio. I am getting a rush thinking about it – i’m really excited.

find the perfect pair of jeans (read all 2 entries…)
I now have three...

I have found three pairs of jeans that I love. One relaxed pair of straight legged jeans from Club Monaco, one very tight pair of drainpipes from Oasis, and another tight pair of boot legged from Club Monaco. All look great in different ways and I think until they fall apart (which the relaxed pair may do soon) I can stop looking!

scrapbook my life
I used to do this

But once I went to university I kind of stopped bothering. But I have decided that I am going to make a book of 2007. I already photograph everything I do, so next year I will actually start making prints of the photos and try to combine this goal with my other goal to stop collecting art supplies and start creating art.

write a book (read all 9 entries…)
It has begun (again)

I didn’t finish the last attempt unfortunately. I put this down to not having the nanowrimo support. I also had a storyline that got WELL out of control. So this time, I am sticking to something I know about! Wish me luck…

read the complete works of oscar wilde
I've bought them...

I just need to get around to reading them

Buy a House (read all 3 entries…)
This feels increasingly impossible

House prices in London are so prohibitively expensive and on top of that there is the question of when I am actually going to be able to look.

keep track of every book i read this year (read all 2 entries…)
I gave up on this one but..

I am actually tracking every book on all consuming, so I guess I should put it back on my list!

make more money (read all 2 entries…)
Pay rises

Well, since my last entry I have had two pay rises, so I guess that counts as making more money, but unfortunately they were both very small raises, so I’m keeping this one on my list…

live in the same city as the man I love (read all 2 entries…)

I can check this off my list tomorrow! I can’t believe he is moving in so soon. I am really really very excited.
