How I did it: When I told mom I wanted to join the Peace Corps and move to West Africa to live by myself in a community, she signed me up for a local self defense class at a local karate joint. The instructor was really helpful, talking a lot about harrassment and violence towards women and showing me various moves to use in various different situations depending on when and how attacked. I donate 11 inches of hair my senior year in high school. Four years later, my senior year of college, I’ve just signed up to do it again. I’m very excited.
I love Paris in the spring!

I spent a week here in May and can honestly say I need more time there. I did a lot of touristy things like visiting the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay and the Tour Eiffel, but I can’t wait to go back and do even more. My favorite moments were the less toursity ones, sitting in quiet cafés where there were no other Americans. My last trip was the first time I have visited Paris when I spoke French fluently, and next time I got back I hope to not speak a word of english while I’m there.
