take my gmats - and get above 750
The GOAL is Harvard Business School

I need to have an impressive GMATS to offset the horrendous GPA semester suicide of 2011 in a finance major that I hated. I also need to have my business growing to show other capabilities, but that’s another topic.

start an online business
First steps

I purchased my domain, I am registering my company name with the state, getting my EIN, and I am registering my trademark with the Feds.
I took my first Entrep class during summer, got an A, and won the class challenge with my business venture pitch and presentation. My mock angel investors (class) voted to give me 1.75 mil when I asked for 150g for start up. It was such an awesome experience and I felt like a BOSS!!! So guess what? I am starting the business! I registered the name and I am going forward with it. The best part about it is 5 out of my 6 classes this semester are all Entrep and they all will teach me the tools I need to grow this business. Now I know you can learn this through practical knowledge and I have been, but I am building my network and still learning all I can during this last semester. I plan on launching the website by the end of January (after my cruise/first vacay in five years). Super excited!!!

find the career that fits my skills, natural talents and passion
Hmmmp

I worked in corporate finance for a big bank for all of 6 months before I realized that I’d probably end up day dreaming about jumping out of a window if I had to sit in a cubicle, staring at a pc , pretending to care about working on spreadsheets for another two years. I’m sorry. I lied. I came to this realization within three months. I had 6 months to finish my contract and keep my signing bonus money! I changed my major and my mind about finance and decided to go into business for myself as well as pursue strategy consulting where I can travel, help other businesses grow and still make money.

Ceremony came and went !

So I went to graduation and seeing as I missed my high school graduation, I definitely wasn’t missing this one ! I could have waited until next year to attend ceremony since officially finish in December, but when I’m done I am done. I’m not trying to wait 6 months for ceremony. In any event, I changed my major two months before graduation and it was the best . I didn’t come back after a five year break to graduate in a major I don’t care for anymore so goodbye finance and hello entrepreneurship! Now my goal is to get all A’s from here forward because i still want my GPA to be strong for grad school and I want to land a job before I finish in December. I have 10 classes left with four in summer and 6 in fall. I picked up an extra minor in Econ and I’m loving it.

volunteer abroad
South korea! Kamsahamida<3

I got an amazing opportunity through my school’s chapter of Financier’s Without Borders to work abroad in South Korea as a volunteer consultant during winter break. It all happened so quickly as I was praying for a sign that I should go into strategic consulting. Within one month of the interview I was on a 14 hour flight to Korea, solo. Talk about scary but exciting! I spent my first night alone in Seoul and then traveled to Daegu where we’d be working. We were a team of four undergrad students from my school and we worked to help a small entrepreneurial biopesticide firm figure out how they could enter their products in the American markets by researching the industry and providing them with a business plan. It was an amazing experience from start to finish and it reignited my love for traveling as well as made me want to volunteer in other countries. Hopefully, Africa will be next! It also helped me to realize that my idea of moving into strategic consulting is indeed a good one!

Summer Full-time!

I made it through the spring semester portion of the internship although I had a lot to learn about being an analyst. I was promoted to full-time summer Analyst. I’m officially in the competitive program up against 179 other students. This is the part that determines whether I will get a full-time job offer. I start work on Monday and it wraps up on August 12th, the same day as my friend’s wedding. Hopefully it will be a good day for both of us and I will have a job offer after graduation. We shall see :) fingers crossed

One more year= two more semesters

I’m almost there! I’m officially a senior. I am taking two classes in the summer starting tonight. Then I have 9 classes left before graduating. I can’t believe that I am almost done. I’m feeling a little down since at least four of my friends are graduating with their bachelor’s or Masters this year, but it is what it is. I’m trying to figure out my next move after I graduate. Hopefully I will get the full-time offer from my internship. I’ve gotten the full-time offer for summer Analyst. So now I have to prove myself by August 12 for this full-time position next year. We will see.

Update

I came to my overly ambitious senses and decided to pursue a degree in Finance and Investments and a minor in Business Writing. I’ll be taking a class or two in Entrepreneurial management as well. The original double major, triple minor plan didn’t pan out and in retrospect… I must’ve been insane to think it was necessary. I’ll be graduating next spring and I have just secured an extended paid internship in my field for this spring and summer or else I’d be graduating in Dec, but what’s the rush? Right. I should try to get a job while I’m here so I have something to do when I am done, and that is what I am going to do with this internship.

I can’t wait to be done. Only 11 more classes after this semester!

I got it!!

I got the job/internship!! I was hired by the cream of the crop on Wall Street to intern for the spring (20 hours per week) and summer semesters. I had a successful first round interview and an even better second round. I was so nervous in the first round that I was certain I messed it up, but I decided to stay positive. In the second interview, I met with the VP of Operations and ended up helping him when he asked me about how I study and balance work. It resulted in m me helping him by giving him a tip for a textbook rental website for his son who just started college. He had no idea that it existed and was so thankful :).

A week later, they called me and told me I made it into the internship program. They selected 15 out of 60 at my school. We also have to take a 6 credit course in which a finance professor and employees from the company will be teaching and training us. The pay is awesome! Double my current salary and in the summer we work full time with possibility of wage increase and an 80% chance of a job offer. I am so happy. I started my new school in the fall semester and my goal was to secure the best internship in my field and I did it in three months. I just can’t wait to get started! I feel so thankful and blessed. I am definitely going to make the most of it.

My school’s career center has been remarkably helpful!

Almost there!

I started two years ago after swallowing my pride and taking the GED. I had been out of school for five years prior after going to college the first time. I found out midway through my freshman year that I hadn’t officially graduated from high school due to a regents. I was devastated and as a result, I developed a fear of failure and felt incompetent. It took me five years to face my setback and take the exam. All of this is in another entry. Now, After starting with only six credits from the past, I have completed 76 credits in two years while maintaining a 3.6 turned 3.4 (thanks to calculus). I went to school year round taking full course loads during two summers. I’m now in my major and can graduate in three years next December if I really push myself. Though, I’ve decided to take my time, get an internship, and finish my 11 classes with high marks and graduate in Spring ‘12 instead. I’m working on getting an internship for the summer since it will be my last summer and joining clubs and networking since I just started my new school this fall. It is highly regarded for business and professional networking and it is overall an exciting place to learn. I’ll be so happy when I turn my tassel, but for now I am enjoying the journey.

Time to make big moves

I have an interview with a big time financial firm that offers a paid internship for spring and summer semester. I attend an undergraduate school in my city that is well known for its business majors. I just transferred in and I was selected for the interview perhaps because of my part-time work experience coupled with my gpa. I am a little nervous but more than appreciative for being selected on that basis alone. I’ve been practicing my responses and why I want this managerial (corporate finance) internship position. I’m a junior after going to school for two years, year round, and I have only 11 classes left. My new school has so many opportunities with career workshops, internships and networking events and it is exciting. I just feel like I came there at the right time and I am keeping my fingers crossed. If I get this, I’ll work my butt off to learn all that I can and network. I need to develop and enhance my financial skills probably more so than those who started at the school but I don’t care. I got this far and I’m putting my best foot forward in everything that I do.

Pass Pre-Calculus
Glad to be done

I failed it during spring semester because I had poor time management with two jobs and three math classes( Pre-cal, statistics, accounting) and a computer class. My professor was tough and then left three quarters through. His wife took over and I went from a 23 and 32 to an 87. I only wish she had taught the class earlier instead but it was too late. Took the class again for summer in one month and got a B+. I needed it to move on to Calculus in the following summer session so I can start my major this fall. Passed Cal with a hard D. I now have a 3.6 avg with 72 credits. I croed when I saw that grade because I was just happy tp be able to pass them both and be done with math!!

renew my driver's license (read all 3 entries…)
I did it!!!

Ohh man! I would have been the biggest fool if I let this thing expire, especially since I am a hard working college student now with no extra money to shell out for a license, let alone a new road test. My friend and birthday twin was shocked that I hadn’t renewed it yet and he dragged me to DMV to get it done two weeks ago. I was holding out until my next check which was coming 5 days before the deadline/ my birthday. It took less than 30 minutes to get done. I was even able to keep my age 21 photo! Definitely happy. I no longer have to depend on anyone to drive me somewhere. I can rent a car and do it myself!

It's official!

I just joined the Y. Finally, I am able to go to a gym that is reasonable in cost and has an elliptical. I have my first in gym workout tomorrow. Meantime, I’ve been walking more and lost 2 lbs.

This is it.

I am turning 26 this year and have been carrying an extra child(in weight) since freshman year of college. Now that I have made some big changes in my life during the last year and a half(going back to school, making honors continuously finally, getting into my goal school, getting a job, meeting someone wonderful, showing my face on face book without feeling inadequate, regaining my sense of self) I am finally ready to stop hiding behind the weight. I admit that I’ve gotten comfortable to some degree with my size and am sort of afraid of being as things as I was in hs (150), which may not seem thin, but on someone who is 5’5 with hips, it was just right. I am aiming more so for 160. Hoping I can keep the breasts that I prayed for.. lol.

Seriously though, my new school is rumored to have an excellent exercise facility and since I can no longer afford a membership at NYSC (which I should have better utilized in those 3 years), I am excited to get back into a gym. Tomorrow I complete registration and I can finally go to a gym with an elliptical machine( my former school was very behind in equipment overall). I’m going with a duffel bag and a transcript to start of strong! I am hoping that I’d shed at least thirty pounds by my birthday in April. We shall see.
