Blog it up! 17 months ago

I’m so happy, I totally started writing. I have a blog, http://satisfiction.wordpress.com, and I’ve been writing for http://pikism.com. Some of the posts on my blog are cross-posted from Pikism because I like them enough to put them in both places. If you want to check them out, please do. I appreciate readers.

Figure out what to do next year (high school, job, travel, Katimavik?)
Hard! 17 months ago

Okay so this was a really really difficult decision. I’ve decided to stay home next year to really take control of my life – get organized, all that good stuff. Probably get a job to save some money for traveling too.

Okay... 17 months ago

Well, virtual school… it did not work out. I’m torn between thinking I’m lazy and knowing that it really really was not right for me. I’m going to apply for credit recovery in September, which is basically saying “look, I’m good and I’ve done a lot of work, so can I get the credit?” Kind of like a situation based GED thing. We’ll see how that goes.

Woohoo! 17 months ago

I think I’ve made some real progress on this. I’ve been journaling and I’ve started contributing to a blog, www.pikism.com. So far only one of my posts is up but that’s just because they’re timed so there aren’t a bunch one day and then none the next. I also joined the Feministing community and hope to come up with something worth posting there (www.community.feministing.com) soon too.

Started... 18 months ago

Okay so I’ve started virtual school. So far it’s fine and I’m keeping up. I’ll see how it goes and I’m going to finish but I won’t stress myself out over it.

Read The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold before June 16

Just for me… the book was not a good read, not worth it. Her other books were so amazing.

Too long term 18 months ago

At the moment, this is still a goal for me for sure and I’ll re-add it to the goal page, but right now I’d rather set more short term goals. I’m going to add a new challenge that I think will make me happier – I want to write a novel this summer.

Read Dexter in the Dark by Jeff Lindsay before June 16
Great book! 18 months ago

What a fantastic book! I actually finished the book yesterday but didn’t get on to say I finished my goal. The Dexter novels are fabulous. They’re witty, funny, well-written, linguistically elegant, and completely thrilling… I mean, let’s not forget that he is a serial killer. Without question, Jeff Lindsay has somehow managed to create an emotionless murderer that makes you fall entirely in love with him.

Read every day (read all 3 entries…)
It's ongoing... 19 months ago

I know that saying “read every day” can’t be listed as “done” unless I’ve set a time frame, like read every day for a year, but I’ve been doing really well at keeping this up. With summer beginning, I’ll be able to keep it up for sure, so I’m going to set some more specific reading goals.

Yay! 19 months ago

I got approved for virtual school this summer! The course runs from June 23 to July 29th. I’ve done virtual school before so it’s not that hard… now I just have to wait until it starts and stick to it!

So far, so good 19 months ago

I’ve been keeping up on my goal. I’ve finished some fantastic books lately and there is certainly something that reading gives you that television or movies don’t. I’m glad I decided to do this.

Strychnine 19 months ago

Today I learned what strychnine is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strychnine. Apparently it’s one of the most bitter substances on earth, and can be tasted at 1 part per million. It’s a poison that’s extremely deadly because it causes muscle convulsions, which kill by asphyxiation or exhaustion. It’s derived from the seeds of a certain type of evergreen which grows in southeast Asia.

Okay... 19 months ago

Well… I accidentally clicked that I’d finished this goal. I’ve been doing it for a few days… so it’s not that bad. If I’m able to keep adding entries I will for a while.

Socialization 19 months ago

Today I learned about the socialization process at http://anthro.palomar.edu/social/soc_1.htm. Families and institutions, such as schools, socialize children. The process basically teaches people how to behave in society. Children with little socialization won’t understand how to react in social situations.

Prison 19 months ago

Today I learned about Fresnes Prison in France at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresnes_prison. Apparently the architect, Henri Poussin, created a new style of prison layout with Fresnes. It is a co-ed prison, but the genders are kept separate. It was built in the late 1800s and houses over 1200 inmates.

Well... 19 months ago

Apparently I’ve lost half a pound this week. That’s nowhere close to where I want to be. Each week, I mean – I have no expectations of losing 80 pounds in a week. This is hard.

War of the Roses 19 months ago

Today I learned about the War of the Roses from the site http://www.warsoftheroses.com/. It took place between the House of Lancaster and the House of York. It was actually a series of civil wars in England that were from 1455 to 1487. Apparently, it is known as the War of the Roses because of the badges the Houses wore in battle – red for Lancaster and white for York.

Okay cleaning my room was totally worth it. I not only organized everything but I threw away a TONNE of stuff which always makes me feel good. Not everything has a place… and I can see my floor!

HAH. That took a while, and a lot of sweaty work. It can always be improved on and reorganized, but I’m happy right now. Everything has a place.

Ridiculousness 19 months ago

Today I learned that a woman in Alberta took the time to create a sort of pseudo-penis for women so that they can pee standing up. You can find it at http://www.femalefreedom.ca/. It’s made of recycled, lightly waxed cardboard. The product of my dreams, I’m sure. Not the most useful tidbit, but certainly something I didn’t know existed yesterday. Good trivia.
