The 25th Annual Perseids Shooting Star Party at Rainbow Meadows, Utah August 10-11-12, 2007 2 years ago

Well.. it’s not quite the norther lights, but it’s still gonna kick ass.

Steve Gamboa publicized this year’s event (Steve’s a Las Vegan and keyboard player):

The 25th Annual Perseids Shooting Star Party at Rainbow Meadows, Utah August 10-11-12, 2007

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION

EVENT: The Perseids Shooting Star Party (The 25th Annual Perseids Meteor Shower)

WHO’S INVITED: You are! The invitation includes your special someone, friends, and family however, you must read the “MUST” section a little further down this page. It is an All-Ages event.

REASON: The Earth annually flies through the dust and debri left behind by the Swift-Tuttle comet. Such matter, even the size of a grain of sand, can create a beautiful shooting star. The activity peaks on the night of August 12, 2007 but can be seen all month long. We always hope for a good show of mother nature’s fireworks but more important, we find it a great reason to get out of the house and visit with great friends, good food, and live music! For more scientific information on the Perseids Meteor Showers click HERE!

PARTY DATE & TIME: Saturday Night August 11, 2007 from 9pm til dawn.

CAMPING DATES & TIME: Friday August 10 through Sunday August 12.

LOCATION: The actual Shooting Star Party and camping will be held in the mountains of Southern Utah at Rainbow Meadows between Brian Head and Panguitch Lake and the view of the evening’s sky from there is simply BEAUTIFUL! Please see map below!

DRIVING: Drive north from Las Vegas on I-15 towards Salt Lake City past St. George to Cedar City. Exit onto Cedar City’s So. Main Street (SR-130) to E. Center Street (SR-14). At E. Center Street (SR-14) turn right heading east up the mountain becoming Cedar Canyon Road (still SR-14) heading towards Duck Creek. At approximately 17.9 miles turn left on SR-148 towards Brian Head for 7.6 miles to SR-143. Turn right on SR-143 towards Panguitch Lake for about 2.1 miles to A Street which is a well grated unpaved road. Turn left on A Street and travel just under a mile to the third street on the right called Pine Lake Dr. (2025 S) and turn right. Travel a quarter of a mile to the only cabin on the left side of street. There is where we’ll be camping around the cabin. Beginning at SR-143 & A Street, Please follow the well marked signs that read “Stars” with arrows leading to the cabin. Please see maps here and drive safe!

HOSTS: The Cool Dudes of the Casa de Cancion (House of Song) Ken, Ben, and Stevie

ENTERTAINMENT: To Be Announced! ( I have to see who can make it this year)

INFO: Bring food, snacks and favorite beverages. Camping chairs and Binoculars, and Camara. Star charts and telescopes. Don’t forget some warm clothes and blankets because it gets a quite cool at about 10000 ft. If you are camping with us, you must bring your own camping gear, food and beverages.

MUST: You will meet the nicest people so please leave your bad attitude, grumpiness, hate the world, chip on your shoulder monster at home and only bring your kind self. NO fighting spouses, NO out of control children, and NO stupidity allowed. Let’s make it the best year yet!

FISHING: There are lots of places to fish. Utah Fishing Licenses are about $12 per day per person and can be puchased in Cedar City or Duck Creek.

SPECIAL NOTE: We are very lucky and blessed to have a wonderful friend, Clint Marrs, who has provide us his own cabin where we can use its facilities including a restroom and a shower. Although there are beds in the cabin that Mr. Marrs said we may use if needed, I do suggest we all camp outside the cabin only using its facilities. Pop Up Tents, Motor Homes, Fifth Wheel Campers, Camper Trailers and Regular Camping Tents are all welcomed on the grounds around the cabin. Clint says there’s plenty of space however the choice spots will be on a first come first serve basis. You must bring your own camping gear, food, and beverages. Please contact Stevie if your have any questions….Thanks!

Attend a juggling convention
What do you do at a juggling convention? 2 years ago

This curious question insipired me to attend a juggling convention. I have never been to a juggling convention, and I don’t know how to juggle very well.. yet. However, the concept of jugglers meeting at an apppointed time to do.. what exactly – juggle I guess – is jovially intriguing to me.

Here’s one explanation given by Jon Reif for the British Juggling Convention (BJC) in Whitstable:

A juggling convention is simply a meeting of lots of jugglers in one place. If you have never been to a juggling convention before you may be wondering what actually happens when a load of jugglers get together. Well, we juggle (obviously), chat, laugh, watch others juggle, have a few drinks, relax with friends, sing Bohemian Rhapsody, play games, teach each other tricks & generally have a good time.

It is not just for jugglers though, juggling conventions are for diaboloists, devilstickists, unicyclists, contact jugglers, club & poi swingers, stilt walkers, acrobats, staff spinners, whipcrackers, lasso spinners (in fact any circus related skill goes) & also absolute non-jugglers.

A juggling convention will usually have at least some if not all of the following features:

  • A big juggling hall or halls
  • Public Show
  • Juggling Workshops
  • Renegade (Ha.. scroll down this site for a better description)
  • Traders
  • Juggling Parade
  • Juggling Games (This site also has a more comprehensive list of Juggling Games)

If you would like to find out more (& you do) then you’ll have to come along to a festival at the next available opportunity. Keep an eye on the Internet Juggling Database Events Listings to find out about upcoming festivals.

See Stevie Wonder in concert. (read all 2 entries…)
Very superstitious 2 years ago

This is too crazy, this is wonderful:

I just did a google search for concert tickets to Stevie Wonder, and he just publicized today that he will be performing for the first time again in more than a decade – praise Jesus.

According to PR Newswire, the tour kicks off on August 23rd at Humphries in San Diego, CA and culminates on September 20th in Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion. The tour is being produced by Live Nation and company executive Larry Magid. Tickets are available beginning on Saturday, August 11th.

BTW – here’s a video of Stevie playing Superstitious on Seasame Street

Enjoy!
