Hiking Partners
Chris-15
Zach-15
Averill-7
Lilly-5
Cheryl-5
Hooch-3
Lyndy-19
SCAZE-5

Toughest Mountain- Monadnock, fairly tough hike anyway but add snow and ice and cold, not ready for that yet maybe soon. 2nd Toughest- Prospect Mountain or Black Mountain both very steep.

Easiest Mountain- No question Bald Mountain in Franconia from the car to the top in 10 minutes, can see the family on this one in the future. 2nd Easiest- Averill Mountain

Most Enjoyable- Pack Monadnock, hiked this with Zach on a beautiful early evening. He was in great spirits and we had sandwiches on top.2nd- Pitcher Mountain, family and blueberries, Gap Moutain, nice climb with Averill and more blueberries.

Least Enjoyable- Bald Mountain, Olde Forge, family hiking in croks, and whining, forgot my hat too. Interesting at the top though but the way up was not fun.

Best View- Tough one but had to be Osceola, then maybe Bald Mtn in Olde Forge, NY or Monadnock.

Worst View- So. Uncanoonuc, New Ipswitch & Moose Mountain, at least Moose had a ledge with a little view, New Ipswich was just a cairn, So. Uncanoonuc was all towers and no views.

Most Moving-Bald Mtn, Old Forge. Hated the hike up, was the only hike without Red Sox hat, then found “DannyBoy” etched in the tower at the top, and we were there by ourselves after passing 50+ on the way up. Perfect weather and views. 2nd- Osceola-E. Osceola. My 1st 4000 footers, made it up both without seeing a soul then had Osceola with perfect views by ourselves.

Least Moving- So. Uncanoonuc Towers, no views though enjoyed it with Averill.

Well I Made It 2 years ago

I have finished my goal of climbing 1 mountain for every year Dan would have been alive, and he would have turned 37 on November 15th so that was how many I planned on tackling.

The idea came to me when I climbed Winn Mountain on March 16th, which was the 2 year anniversary of his passing. To me it would be a way to keep his memory alive, by doing something he enjoyed, would of respected, and in the long run is good for my own health and well being.

Well it certainly was a great experience. Not every hike was fun or moving, but I would say that each one left me at the very least in a little better shape than I would have been without it. Lyndy and Sadie when she came along certainly enjoyed every trip, except when on a leash. It also provided some great thinking time when alone, but better was the time when I had company. The kids did a lot of the hikes with me and Chris was with me for 15 of the trips which was great for us. We often mention on our Sunday morning hikes how this was our Church. The biggest regret is that we never did our Sunday morning hikes while Dan was still around, I’m sure it is something he would have been into. So now he goes onlong via the DE Red Sox hat, not quite the same but close.

Today 11/23 I went up Winn Mtn one more time just to wrap things up, it was cold and windy on top but less icey on the way up and the views were great. Saw a big hare in the same place I saw 2 deer in March, maybe a sign.

I plan on continuing this from year to year keeping up with Dan’s years, so next year is 38. I hope to be a little more detailed in descriptions of the actuall hikes, so that I can have an actual type of hiking guide when done. I also hope to get my family more interested in making more trips with me, as it is a life sport and a way to get them moving.
