What does it mean to have a Mentor? 1 month ago

A mentor redirects you whenever you go off course when reaching your goals. Now for most business owners, this may sound unnecessary. You’ve gotten this far in your business and doing well by yourself, haven’t you? Yet if you are a businessperson looking to take yourself and your company to the next level, you may find it difficult to get there because the exact same knowledge that got you your past success is what is holding you back! A mentor can provide you input for creating successful strategies, and is it reasonable to assume you’ll reach your goals without strategy? Isn’t it easier to have a mentor who can see your obstacles before you do? A mentor is a tool- you apply their availability to aid you in success.

A mentor sees you for who you can be. You don’t need to make excuses, they already know. The best you can do is to just move on. It has been my experience that people come into a coaching session with many pre-conceived notions, that I will tell them how they should run their business, or that I’ll “manage” them. Let me be up front and say that first of all I am not the expert in your field- you are. I am simply there to help you become your best so that your business becomes its best, and to hold you accountable to the goals you set for your self.

There are people out there (and I’m guilty of being one at times!) who believe that they have excellent self-accountability and that’s great. However, when we are called upon to grow and change- things that we, as adults, have a great difficulty doing- we tend to slack off and choose to ignore that which needs to be done in order for us to become better. A business mentor, much like a weight loss coach, is there to keep you from letting yourself “off the hook”, so to speak.

Don’t worry if you aren’t sure of what to talk about, tell yourself, “I deserve to be mentored!” You bring the questions and the positive expectations, and your coach will bring the answers or point you to the source.

So how often should you meet with a coach or mentor? At the minimum, you should meet once a month. I personally get together with my clients (and my own coach!) once every two weeks. Get away from distractions when you are in a coaching session. This means get away from the computer, coworkers and/or employees, and cell phones off! Never cancel an appointment as well; your coach would never do that to you.

We all get back what we put out. What are you doing to get more out of yourself?

Progress, not Perfection 2 years ago

Have joined to Coach Training Alliance in order to educate myself further towards fully achieving this goal. This will also help me in achieving my goal Teach Success (#10).

For years, I have read books on personal and professional development, and I have used many of their principals successfully in my own business. I see mentoring other entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs as the next step in my own success path, and also the next business that I will start.

become a public speaker
Can You Believe This? 2 years ago

More people fear speaking in public than they do dying.

Ironically it’s also one of the most highest paid professions.

For myself, I would love to share what I have learned to willing ears, with the hopes of making a difference in someone’s life.

I always did like to go after the things most people were afraid of doing… ;-)

Sweet mother of god, if this isn’t the definitive image of sex on wheels, than I don’t know what is.

So this is the man I cannot wait to get married to. There’s a lot of goals we want to accomplish this year, and this is one of them. I don’t expect it to be some big romantic surprise, I know it’s coming. I’ll just be happy when it /does/ happen.

get back into my workout routine
Untitled 2 years ago

I don’t really need to loose weight. ::pokes ribs:: However, it would be nice to have my muscle tone back to its peak state. It would also give me something to do- I really have a desire to get active again.

Get back into painting (read all 2 entries…)
Is This Painting? 2 years ago

Since time and space have prohibited me to actually go out and paint, I have been creating by hand many pieces of pixel art work in PaintShop Pro. It’s been fun and challenging, yet is it painting? I am using color and a brush, though both are digital.

Any thoughts?

have an exciting future
Why an exciting future? 2 years ago

The future is always happening. By desiring an exciting future, my life in the present will never be dull, and each experience will be more exciting than the next.

In other words, why live a stagnant, boring life when there’s so much of it to experience?

I grew up painting. Creating was (is) as much a part of me as breathing.

Where did it all go? I miss it.

be driven
What is Driven? 2 years ago

It’s the willingness to go on even when you don’t feel like it. It’s determination; the “I will until”. It’s about being relentless about the person you want to be, the things you want to do, and the life you want to have. It’s giving it all you got, over and over and over again. It’s the laser-like focus you have on all your dreams and goals.

It’s about not giving up, period.

retire young
Ambitiously Lazy 2 years ago

You shouldn’t retire just because you’re old. You should do it because you have enough money to live the life you want without working for it.

My plan of action is to find as many ways to create as much passive streams of income as possible. My money works for me, as opposed me working for it.

We’ve been living together for nearly four years. It would be nice to have “the ring”, ya know? And given that we’ve been together for some time, I’d like something that makes you say, “Damn! Let’s go skating!”

(I’m saying this because I know he’ll read it) evil grin

Read all the books in my "must read" pile
My Pile 2 years ago

All but two are partially read.

  • Think and Grow Rich
  • Unique Ability
  • Leadership and Self-Deception
  • Madame Chiang Kai-Shek: China’s Eternal First Lady
  • Fierce Conversations

I’m sure there’ll be more once I finish unpacking and find all my books.

realize my potiential for greatness
Why settle? 2 years ago

“The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what we want most for what we want in the moment”

And this is why I believe most people do not become as great as they can be. Which is a shame, as there are simply too many great people in this world that never know they are.

The first step in realizing potential is to affirm it. Psycho-lingustics is a powerful tool. It is the best way to reprogram your mind from average thinking to oustanding thinking.

More to come.

write a book
Audacious Goal? 2 years ago

I few weekends ago, I had an inspired thought.

I’ve always wanted to write a book, yet my subject matter eluded me. Novels were fine, short stories were all well and good, however I wanted to write something that would help others.

Then at a business function, after listening to the keynote speaker, it came to me. A book that teached the reader how to listen to the things that are not being said- a kind of auditory read between the lines. Now I’m not talking about interpreting what someone is saying or giving it a meaning it doesn’t have (sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, after all). It’s the “fill in the blank” stuff. The stuff people don’t say because they deem you’re intelligent enough to figure it out.

I have no idea if a book such as this has a market. I do, however, know of some people who could use a book like it.

Since I have no interest in a “how-to” method of writing, I’m gonna have to figure out how to write this in a story format. I’m an excellent storyteller- at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

This should be an interesting adventure, to say the least.

Live in another country

If you want to truly experience a country in all its flavors, both good and bad, you have to live there…get in there and experience what the people who live there experience.
