3.27.13 Ice Cream

I treated myself to an ice cream sundae today, and while I was waiting in line I was talking with other customers. It’s easy to get people to smile when they are going to get a treat! The young gal ordering before me forgot her small shopping bag as she was leaving and I got her attention. She was very happy that I noticed her bag before she left the store.

Plus the gentleman serving the ice cream was very talkative and we had a nice chat about all the flavors. We both agreed that the best flavor is plain vanilla done perfectly!

3.27.13 Cool but warmed up.

It was a bit overcast this morning, and I had some things that needed to be done on my house so I had hoped for sunshine. I got my wish around 11 am and I managed some time on the front patio taking care of things. At 5 p.m. I found some time to enjoy my hammock in the backyard, catching the last of the day’s sunshine. It was cooler then but still so nice to be outside!

Cheers to Spring!

be nice and only say positive things for one day! (read all 21 entries…)
Kind of completed this.

Yesterday I did a good job of being positive. I don’t recall any negative comments, however 24 hours is a long time so I don’t remember everything I said. I am going to continue to work on this goal, since it is a life changing goal. I want to be positive at all times, and this goal was a start at getting to that mindset.

So I will work on this today, and tomorrow, and the next day. :)

Great Quote

“It’s only a miracle until we understand the science, then it becomes a technology.” How true. Once we “understand” how alternate methods work at healing people, they become another tool in the arsenal towards wellness. The mystery is solved and the method becomes accepted.

What are we missing because we label healing methods as “unscientific”?

My house!

My house has been neglected for the past few years due to my concentrating on work. I realized that my house should be the most relaxing place I spend time – however it isn’t. And I still get the Flylady emails that remind me to clean up my house. :)

So I have started on a mission to get my house clean and organized. It will take a while, however every step towards this goal is a welcome one. I am “pretending” that I am going to move soon and I need to clean the house before I move.

The kitchen had a reasonable cleaning on Sunday. I sorted papers and dumped a bunch on Monday. Next will be go through clothes and get rid of things I won’t wear. And there are always papers to sort.

Thank you Flylady for your emails!!!

3.24.13 Driving

I was driving to my friend’s house to get my car washed, and I noticed that the car next to me had a burned out tail light. At the signal I got the driver’s attention and told them the tail light was out. At first the lady was wondering why I wanted to talk to her (which is understandable). When I told her about the tail light, she was happy that I had let her know.

Is it me or do other people tell drivers when their lights are out? I wouldn’t want to get pulled over for something as simple as a burned out light, so I let people know.

3.25.13 Movies

A couple were trying to pay for parking in the lot near the theater and I told them that if they were going to the movies they didn’t have to pay. That made them happy. They checked when the got into the theater, and the cashier confirmed they didn’t have to pay.

Just taking the time to talk to strangers and give them good news, is easy to do. Obviously it made them happy as well.

3.24.13 Three (plus) things!

A fantastic day where I had time to lay in the hammock and enjoy the lovely weather.

My car was cleaned inside and out and looks great!

Walking with a friend.

Kale salad for dinner that my friend made – delicious!!

Time spent working on my house so it is comfortable and clean!!!

Start TODAY with a smile! (read all 24 entries…)
I haven't been keeping up on this goal.

I am starting my days in a good mood, though I need to work a bit on starting with a smile. One cat is quite sick, and he wakes me during the night. I do not blame him, but it messes up my sleep, so I am tired in the mornings. Still, in the big picture of things my life is going extremely well and I am happy with that!

Tomorrow I will start my day with a smile!!

3.24.13 - smile cyclist!

I was out walking with my friend, and as we were looking at an older house, a man rode by on a bicycle. He was looking at us so I said “hello”. He acknowledged the greeting and gave us a nice smile as well. :)

3.24.13 Walking with a friend

I had my car cleaned by this older gentleman who comes over to my friend’s house to wash the cars. He takes 2 hours to clean a car, so my friend and I went walking while he was working. It was a BEAUTIFUL day out so I was happy to do a lot of walking. I love spring days like this!!

My usual Starbucks.

I don’t actually go here very often, just the odd occasion when I want to sit outside and people watch. Today I stopped to watch people after riding in the mountains. Plus my coffee maker is still out of sorts. I had a large house coffee. It’s too strong for me to drink a lot of it. I took my time enjoying the coffee and enjoying the sunshine. And I watched people. It was a nice way to spend an hour.

3.23.13

I spent about 45 minutes in the mountains, enjoying the view and singing. I rode up the crest and found a good pullout where I could park my scooter. Then I hiked out on a hill and sang to my heart’s content. The bushes were in bloom with pretty yellow flowers. It was nice in the sun. :)

3.22.13 I never thought I would feel sorry for a coyote...

I sat out on my patio waiting for my sister to stop by. I read since it was nice outside. My neighbor stopped by, and we chatted for a while. And then, as we were sitting there I saw a strange animal across the street. “Look, a deer!” Well upon closer examination it wasn’t a deer, but a poor coyote who had mange so bad that he didn’t have any fur at all. His skin was a grey color, and because of the way he was bounding, he looked like a deer without any antlers.

Since it was still light out, and people had animals out, I didn’t want him to stay in the neighborhood. So I got on my scooter and “escorted” him out of the area, up to a road that he could follow, and get back into the area he came from. As I herded him up the road I could see that he was in bad shape because of the mange. I am not fond of coyotes in urban areas, especially my neighborhood. But this poor animal was obviously in very poor health and had major problems because of his mange.

Anyone who saw the photos of the raccoon with mange that was mistaken for a “Chupracaba” in the summer of 2011, and made the news, knows how different an animal looks without any fur. Mange is treatable according to what I am reading, I am just not sure I want to go looking for a coyote…

I had my first business discussion today!

It was the result of the webinar I watched on the 18th, and the discussion was very enlightening. I learned a lot about myself in terms of how I would do running a business, and I learned about areas that I need to focus on. The discussion was a lot easier than I thought it would be. That was partially because I didn’t have a clear idea of what we would be talking about.

I have some homework to do. Focus on one business idea and start building a business plan.

Develop incredible self confidence (read all 8 entries…)
Self confidence is a funny thing.

I can tell that I have more confidence in many areas of my life. Though I took a personality test on Monday and received the results today. In one area of my life, my self confidence is lower than I would have liked. The person I was speaking with about the results is a business coach. He said that as I work on my external business ideas, my self confidence will increase. This makes sense because I haven’t ever worked on my own business before so this is new ground for me.

The areas that I scored very high in were theoretical (no surprise), altruism, and individualistic. These are in line with my behaviors, and views of the world. I was average for everything else, which did surprise me a bit. I thought I would have been lower in areas like political and regulatory.

So, I have a new area to work on, and I am doing fine in the other areas of my life. That is GOOD!

be positive (read all 9 entries…)
Being mindful of positive thoughts.

I am working hard at choosing positive thoughts over negative ones. And the more I work at it, the easier it is. I catch myself if I say something negative and then rephrase it. I feel better. My life is better, and people are starting to notice that I am much happier.

This is the best gift I can give myself!!

3.22.13 Easy again today!

I ran some errands and just focused on being really nice to people. Everyone responded with a smile. One lady was especially sweet. She works at this little “crumble” shop in Pasadena (since the U.S. term has another meaning in the U.K.), and she was super nice. It was great talking with her and watching her response.

And on my way home the people in the car in front of me were obviously lost. I stopped and gave them directions based on the map they had. They were very happy to be helped out. That made me smile!

3.22.13

I was waiting for my scooter to get an oil change while I browsed the store and sipped on a cup of coffee. It was okay, Folger’s and not overcooked. Not my first choice but certainly it made the time pass faster. And the guys working at the shop were nice.
