I went through all my old, unfinished stories last night. I don’t think my writing’s improved much since eighth grade. Not quite sure what to do about that. Anyway.
I looked around on LJ until I found a writing prompt I liked, and then wrote about it for fifteen minutes, as per the instructions. I got out about two thirds of a page, and 381 words. Not bad.
I’m working on a story, at the moment, too, but it’s really only for my friends to read, as it’s based on a lot of personal experiences, and I hate that. I’ve had it drilled into my head since my fanfiction days in seventh grade not to do that, under any circumstances. Which of course is more important in fanfiction than normal fiction, but it’s too late: I’ve been brainwashed. This story is really more like how I wish my life was going, so. . . Yeah. I’m having two friends beta it, so it’s going okay so far.
I had written about two pages when I first started it a week or so ago, and last night I went back and wrote a page that comes before that. This morning, when I got out of bed, I went to the computer and wrote two more pages. I’m thinking I should probably write some more before I edit, not only because that’s still only five pages, but because I like to format things a certain way, then print them out and take a pen to them, and my printer’s being a spazz.
Magnesium Oxide! Productivity! I rock.
