Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

lose 100 pounds (read all 2 entries…)

I started keeping a food journal. I write down everything including the food I don’t want to admit I ate. I also write down my weight every as suggested by my nutritionist. I’ve been keeping my caloric intake between 1400-1600 calories a day for weight loss.

My only disappointment is that I gained more weight that I thought:(
I to lose more than 100 pounds to reach my goal weight of 160lbs.

clean up my house and keep it clean (read all 4 entries…)
Starting with the clothes.

I have to admit I am overwhelmed at the thought of cleaning and organizing my apartment. If ever I needed help with something it is this. I’m starting with my clothes. I cleaned every stitch of clothing I own weather it fits or not. I know why I don’t get rid of the old clothes I just don’t want to admit it. I gained a lot of weight over the years. I feel like giving away my clothes means I’m giving up on losing weight.

I threw out and shredded old bills, bank statements, pay-stubs and other paperwork. One large garbage bag.
I’m on my way.

Another positive step.

I saw a nutritionist. She gave me some great tips. I haven’t touched the snack vending machine at work in two weeks.

I’m down eight pounds and I’m starting an exercsie routine today.

exercise (read all 2 entries…)
Starting my new exercise program.

I’m starting Slim in 6 today. I read it was on of the better programs (from a company called beachbody)for people who are obese. I’ll also being do a 5 mile walk DVD. It’s going to be about two hours of working out about 5-6 days a week.

I was told to start off slow. I’m not going to do both DVDs back to back. I have to commit to this and hit the ground running(walking). I don’t have kids, I’m not in school right now so I have to excuse and nothing to told me back. I’m too young to be this out of shape. The only thing I’d being doing is sitting on my behind.

I have to start moving.

find a new job
Starting the process

I completed two job applications this evening. After working all day it’s hard to find two hours to look for a new job. However, that is the commitment I’m making to myself. I will spend at two hours a day looking for new job. Completing applications, searching and adjusting my resume as needed.

clean up my house and keep it clean (read all 4 entries…)

I folded all my clean laundry and packed away my winter clothes. I also packed up some clothes to give away.

I’m cleaning in stages. First my clothes, next on the list are books and paperwork.

I don’t want to do to much at one time. I’m not trying to set myself up for failure.

learn how to ride a bicycle
The shame of it all

I have never learned how to ride a bike. On the plus side I found a bicycle shop in Delaware willing to teach me. I think I’ll have to buy a bike from the shop, although they said nothing indicating a purchase was madatory.

Good thing they sell used bikes.

Massive Undertaking

My apartment is mess. I can’t find anything and don’t need most of the “things” I keep. I have to get rid of most of what I own. I’m hanging onto clothes, I haven’t been able to fit in ten years.
The clothes, shoes and paperwork are going to take the most time. It can be so overwhelming I don’t know where to begin.

I made up mind the kitchen. It’s the second smallest space in my apartment. It also serves as storage for clothes.

I’m starting with the refrigerator. Tonight it gets scrubbed so hard it would cry if it could.
