Poor Mum had already dealt with me having anorexia when I was 15-16, so me having an eatin… Read how I did it…
Ngāi Tahu are the Maori tribe who settled in the South Island. They are the guardians of greenstone so there was a lot of this in the exhibition. When I think of Ngāi Tahu I think of a tribe who have been quite financially savvy compared to others and greenstone, and this exhibition delivered on both of those perceptions.
I have been a bit slack in getting around to see this exhibition (especially since I’ve got a bit of the ole Scots in me myself). There’s nothing like a closing date to motivate a visit.
I found out that in some areas almost 1/3 of the population were Scottish, and some of our famous leaders and business men were Scottish. Most importantly many of the women involved in our early women’s suffrage movement were Scottish or of Scottish ancestry. Since New Zealand was the first country to give women the vote, we owe a lot to these wonderful Scottish women!
