The single most dramatic sports moment I’ve ever seen. 9th inning, game 5 2004 ALCS. Pinch running Dave Roberts vs. Mariano Rivera. That lead. The throws to first- close! The look on Roberts face, on his stomach outstretched hand safe back at first. Electricity everywhere. That lead! Leiter saying “He’s going.” Oh- he goes. The throw and the safe call. And then Everything else that happened afterwards. It all changed in that moment. I will always get chills when I think of Dave Roberts and the Stolen Base.
This is great reading. Transports you to Mexico south of Texas. Makes you feel like you’re in the desert.
