The Towman

Tonight, after service ended and before I got prayer, I was talking with S. Charlotte, telling her how God had kept our van running. Then I got prayer, and went home. On the way home, our van stalled out and being alone, I was terrified. This stretch I was on had almost no lights there and it was nearly impossible to see our van. I really was terrified because someone could easily have rear ended me.

The only thing I could was get out, as quickly as possible and flash my cell phone in the back to try to alter people I was there. It was all I could do. Finally, a man pulled up behind me and put on his hazard lights, then a sheriff showed up, and both men helped to push this heavy whale of a vehicle into another church parking lot right across the road, where we were safe and out of the way.

I almost did get read ended at one point, which was terrifying.
But you see, God gave me a sheriff and a tow man to help me! He’s so wonderful! I was so blessed tonight, and I hope God will bless the tow man who helped me, and the sheriff. It’s so easy to feel angry or helpless, but I’d rather rejoice in knowing that He is there, and He always is when I need him. You just never know what can happen in life, and if the Lord isn’t with you…you never know.

Jesus, thank you so much for being there for me. Let’s make this a night of being thankful and closer!

Jane Eyre

So, lately, I’ve been watching the BBC movie Jane Eyre quite a lot. I’ve not yet read the novel. The first time I saw the movie, I didn’t like it, and the second time I saw it, I did like it, and I’ve been watching it time and time again each night lately. The more I watch it, the more I see, and come to understand more of what Charlotte Bronte must have been trying to show through her work.

But tonight, I also became very interested in what exactly a Governess was socially, as this is what Jane Eyre is in the movie; a governess. (Coincidentally, I’ve been hanging around the home schooling section of Barnes and Nobles and I love it. I could even reteach myself a few things.)

The more I watch Jane Eyre the character, I begin to think of how she was considered quite accomplished by certain standards. Quite honestly, I admire that and even though I would consider myself educated, and smart and well enough read, I still yearn for something of that thing that a young woman is supposed to have, that “well accomplished”-ness. Whatever it really is. For example, reading, writing, arithmetic and sewing, singing, and playing some sort of instrument.

The Lord knows how much I love to learn and the woman of my family from my mothers side have all been blessed and able to attend college. I love learning and never cease to want to improve myself.

But the more I think of it, I think of the danger there is in being too educated. Meaning, it’s really easy to become very big-headed about it. “I went to college, and you didn’t!” sort of attitude. And why did you go to college? Wasn’t it really to improve yourself in order to lend yourself to society and be a profitable member of it, and to put to use your knowledge and skills to better others and serve them?

But I never knew the Lord to have respect to anyone in regards to whether or not they went to college.

So, I am so thrilled when He shows me that all the education in the world means nothing. Nothing without love. Love is really everything that matters. I could be a governess but if I teach without love, then who cares? All I’ve really taught is how to be mean, instead of patient. To be cruel instead of caring.

I praise God and thank Him that we are blessed in being able to learn and achieve many things, but that Love is all that matters. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve gone to Harvard or to a little school no one knows or even if you never went to school. God loves you, and it doesn’t matter how educated you are.
