Here is a short list of six goals for today:
1. Finish revising and correcting the first twenty pages of my intro so I can hand it in to my supervisor on Wednesday morning.
2. Buy bread.
3. Look on the internet for the bus and train departures to get to Brussels tomorrow for a meeting.
4. Write in my “Couple development” notebook that it is important to take breaks (5-10 min) from work, from a heated discussion from a meeting…(every 50 min or so seems to be a good lapse of time).
5. Fold dry clothes and hang up wet clothes (this is good for making a smaller ecological foot print, too) I’m using the dryer very, very rarely (once every 3 months! Not bad for a family of five, eh?).
6. Keep on schedule: Leave work at 4:30 pm or a little before and be in bed before 10:00 pm (this last goal is a tough one).

These are my priorities and this is what keeps me going through my different tasks during the day. Finally, what I accomplish each day adds up with the weeks, the months, the years…etc.

I’ve been looking into how I function for quite some time now, and I’ve noticed a number of things:
1. The only thing that’s going to get me off my bottom and on my feet is myself. It seems so simple, yet its true. There could be a bomb about to fall on my head but if I haven’t decided to move, if I haven’t decided to put myself in “Priority project mood/mode” I won’t even bat an eyelid. I could set 1000 alarmclocks to go off all at the same time, the house could be on fire, the kids could be screaming and there could be a bloodthirsty vampire next to me (all at the same time), I JUST WOULDN’T BUDGE until I would decide to. The point of the matter is: I have found that CHANGE or MOTIVATION comes from INSIDE of me. I just cant’ rely on outside elements to keep me on task. I just need to organise myself and mytime (a convenient extension of the “myself” concept). I need to find an inside rhythm and keep to that beat. I can’t let outside events disorganise me, I need to find out how to work around them.
2. The positive aspect of being the one person in charge of mytime is that I can make all the decisions concerning it. If I have the will power to sit on my seat although there are a million things urging to go, I can use the same will power, the same energy, to get things done.
3. Managing time and energy is the key. I’ve managed to prioritize my needs conveniently (WaSl CleOrg RouAtt – perhaps I could look for another pharse that uses all first letters…) First I need to drink enough water throughout the day (Wa), Then I need to get enough sleep (Sl). Then I need to do a bit of cleaning to make sure I can work in the best conditions (it lifts my spirits) (Cl). Then I need to have my things sufficienly organised (Org) to find what I need. After that, I need some simple routines (Rou) to keep my lifespace clean and my stuff organised, and finally I need to keep a positive, forgiving, loving, understanding, caring, ATTITUDE (Att) towards myself (and life and others as well of course, but most of the time I forget myself). So it comes down to WaSl CleOrg RouAtt. I think I’ll reorganise them to: W A S C O R because they are important in that order. Water first, attitude next….I just googlized it and I got this : “WASeda Construction Robot research project” which of course has nothing to do with my acronym!! Ok I’ll keep WASCOR, who wants to WASCOR with me then?
