Its very much worth the preparation. It still gives me a sense of accomplishment.

I recommend acting like your in the military already before you go. Practice sleep deprivation, running in boots for miles, try to get up to 200 push ups a day, learn to shoot a rifle correctly and get yours hands on GI training guides. In the army we had litle blue ones called that had IET written on them, but we called them smart books. Get used to drinking lots and lots of water daily (learn to chug it even when your panting from a hard jog). If you get used to a lot of these things it will lessen the shock your body physically goes through during initial training and save you time.
MOS aside there are also great traits to be picked up in the military: dedication, attention to detail, camradarie, speed, efficiancy, routine, adjustment ability, flexability, speaking tactfully, manners, etiquitte, common sense, endurance, systamatic motivation, and holding your tongue.
I highly recommend going to the theatre while in London. I also recommend travelling from London to Paris by the chunnel. Westminster abbey is beautiful as is Harcourt. If you have the money stay at a bed and breakfast, its totally worth it. Becareful on the subway, last time I was their it was bombed by Irish rebels.
