Mixed feelings 10 months ago

After the Nike debacle, I started feeling very ambivalent about Alkaline Trio. My husband keeps telling me, “They’re just boys, they made a mistake”, but that’s just it: they’re not boys, they’re intelligent men with sound opinions on matters like, for example, the welfare of animals. So why not extend that compassion to issues like child labour? I don’t know… I still can’t understand what on earth possessed them to jump into bed with Nike and I find it hard to stomach anyone who would be as stoked as Matt Skiba seemed to be when presented with his own pair of Heart and Soles. “This really provides some insight into who we are,” he gushed. Does it really? More than your music?

Anyway…

Ideally I would have liked to go to the show with a banner reading “Nike sellouts”, but since I didn’t have any time to get my act together, I determined that I would just stand there with my arms crossed, without ever applauding, quietly expressing my disapproval.

But by the fourth song, however, my foot was tapping. Damn the Trio and their impossible catchy tunes! Then they sang “Goodbye Forever” and dedicated it to Jerry Finn. My heart melted, I clapped my hands with enthusiasm. Well, sometimes you just have to forgive and forget, don’t you?

It was a good concert, no doubt. The band sounded super-tight, and Derek Grant is a pleasure to watch and listen to any time of the day or night! There was a great crowd, too.

Oh, and not a pair of Heart and Soles in sight (at least not on stage)... :)

make the dental hygienist happy with the way I brush my teeth (read all 2 entries…)
Another appointment, another hygienist 11 months ago

Why is there a new one every time?!? Anyway…

This one took one look and said, “They’re really clean!” even though I have been brushing away from the gums (instead of into the gums) and flossing less than religiously. She wrote on my chart: “Oral health: excellent.”

Looks like I might have achieved this goal. Man, it took years of practice, but I have finally learned to keep my mouth really clean.
