Arizona Rock 'n Roll Marathon

I ran the Arizona Rock ‘n Roll Marathon in January 2005. We had beautiful weather, the crowds were fantastic, and the bands were great.

The thing that surprised me the most about running a marathon, was no sooner had we started, people started running off the course to go to the bathroom. I mean, people (both men and women) were just peeing everywhere—in the bushes, on the side of buildings, etc. Kinda gross, but I guess for some, it’s a tradition.

I loved seeing all of the people in costumes, and doing odd things—like the guy dressed in a pink tutu, with pink tights and pink shoes, carrying a fairy wand; the guy who juggled the whole way (and still finished way ahead of me!!); the guy who ran in a full business suit, carrying a briefcase; and of course, lots of super heroes.

I would love to make this an annual tradition, but am not on track yet.

travel to kauai

I loved Kauai. I spent a week there - stayed in a very inexpensive hotel, which left more money to do everything I wanted to do - go on a helicopter ride (the one with no doors!—totally awesome), hiking along the Napali coast (I highly recommend; this was a very rigorous hike, but getting to the hidden waterfalls and secluded beaches was worth it!), kayaking down the river, driving up to Waimea Canyon… Had dinner in a fabulous restaurant right on the beach that had the most gorgeous sunset view…sigh. I would love to go back again.
