How I did it: Counseling made it seem like we had a very healthy marriage. We were getting along great, having great sex, and relying on each other and giving each other space in a healthy balance. If it weren't for the infidelity, lies, deception, and the subsequent feeling that the whole marriage had been an illusion, I'm quite sure we made it to a place where being married was a joy and not a fight. I love my job. I love working with women and families, and I really love seeing the difference between women I’ve worked with and the general population. I own my own business, have as much or as little work as I choose, and I have a huge network of like-minded women whom I’ve worked with over the last few years. Go for it, do it. Make sure you have childcare, and honestly, it is much easier to be a doula if you have had children, and most women like knowing that you’ve been through birth before.
