This is the first day since I got my cello that I haven’t practiced. There hasn’t been a time since I got back from work when someone hasn’t been using the kitchen-living-dining room. I’ll be moving in a couple of weeks though, and then I’ll have enough space to keep it in my room and practice there.

How I did it: I was determined to learn how to program, and thought that Python looked a good place to start. I've been learning since the summer, and now I've got to the stage where I can make some fairly complex and good-looking applications. Of course, I'm not an expert programmer in six months, but I think I have a good enough grasp of the language to mark this goal as complete. Now it's just a case of broadening my horizons. How I did it: I was lucky to have an idea that almost wrote itself.I was also lucky that there are people at my university who know about recording and production, so it came out sounding really good. Here is the finished product: http://www.surgeradio.co.uk/features/articles/0338.html Read how I did it…
How I did it: I came up with an idea, then bashed it out on paper. It sounds so simple when I put it like that! It didn't feel simple at the time, I found it quite difficult to get it down. I've done a couple of ten-minute plays now, so I think I can safely count the goal as done. I don't think I'll ever be a professional playwright, but it's been an interesting thing to try. Hopefully I'll be able to see one of my plays performed one day. Read how I did it…

I had my first lesson with my new teacher yesterday. It turns out I’ve been holding both the cello and the bow wrongly, so I’m glad I had someone to tell me before it became a habit. I’ll do plenty of work on my tone and bowing this week, so that next lesson we can move on to some fingerings. I’m impatient to progress, I don’t like being a beginner!
Not much seemed to happen throughout most of the 1200s, at lease that I could hear! But right at the end came, Philippe de Vitry, who I did like. Now moved on to Guillaume de Machaut, and it’s fantastic.
