Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

- The Robots.

not give up on 43things because of the seemingly constant application errors I encounter that won't let me easily use my cheers, which are subsequently lost when I return. (read all 2 entries…)

Get people to take this quiz to find out which spirit animal calls to them
OWL!

I didn’t think quiz this was accurate at all.

Here’s what it told me:The vision and hearing of Grandmother Owl is very powerful. Those with this medicine are can be gifted with the ability to see into the human psychic and become clairvoyant listeners. Owl often visits those who are teachers, therapists and counselors. As a guide, the owl teaches us to see and hear past shadows, beyond fear and darkness, though to the other side that promises light, happiness and knowledge.
Owl’s Wisdom Includes:
Stealth
Secrecy
Silent and swift movement
Seeing behind masks
Keen sight
Messenger of secrets and omens
Shape-shifting
Link between the dark, unseen world and the world of light
Comfort with shadow self
Moon magick
Freedom
The owl, whose large eyes peering through the darkness can see any deception. He is always wary of those who he does not feel completely close to (which is not many). The owl is a loner. Call on him if you think people are keeping the truth from you. He will be able to open your eyes.

But…Is there anything that we can do to help 43things get back to normal?

Take the Colorgenics profile test
Only 50% right about me....

I took the Colorgenics test and this is what I got:

At this time you are feeling ‘uptight’ and you are urgently in need of rest and relaxation; but perhaps even more than that you need to overcome that feeling that you have been ‘hard done by’ and treated with a complete lack of consideration. Maybe you have, but whatever may have been the cause of your inherent anxiety, you regard the situation as intolerable. Your are, however, sufficiently competent to turn that situation around – you have overcome similar problems in the past, and really this one isn’t too different.

You are a true extrovert, frivolous and outgoing. You need to feel in control of any situation. If matters are not proceeding according to plan you tend to get extremely irritable and perhaps become difficult to live with.

Loneliness is soul destroying and at this time you feel lost and lonely, perhaps it is because you feel so frustrated that you are prepared to go out of your way to become emotionally involved with someone who could accept you for what you are. You are egocentric, antagonistic and quick to take offence, although it must be said, you can control your pent-up up emotion and thus avoid open conflict.

You are trying to prove yourself – not only to yourself but also to everyone around you. There is much that you would like to say and do but the situation warrants self-restraint and that is the last thing that you have on your mind. It would seem that you have an unsatisfied need to ally yourself with others whose standards are as high as your own. You want to be different – to stand out from the crowd. This is subjecting you to considerable stress but you tend to stick to your attitudes despite lack of appreciation. Of course, you are finding the situation uncomfortable and would like nothing better but to break away from it but you don’t like the idea of compromise. Your main problem is that you are unable to resolve the situation because you continually postpone making the necessary decisions. You feel that if you make the wrong choice this would lead to such opposition that you would not be able to command the esteem of others. It is essential that those around you are prepared to comply with your wishes.

You would like to be respected and valued for yourself and this can only be achieved from within a close and harmonious relationship.

Have more 'things I've done' than 'things I want to do' on 43 Things.
Pretty easy...

since I usually don’t have more than 10 things on my list.

Touch the Life of a Stranger in Need
Tonight at the grocery store...

as I was in line to check out at the self-service, there was an older lady in need of help checking out. Standing in front of the computer and looking quite confused while hampered down with tons of vegetables, she looked at me and asked, “How do I weigh the vegetables?”

I patiently explained how the weighing works and how to enter the produce code so the register could weight the item and price it for her. I also had to explain that she had to put her item on the belt to be scanned before she could continue. I also took the time to help her find the product codes and how to look them up using the picture catalogue. Once she got the hang of it, she found it easy and sped through the process.

Luckily, it didn’t take much time so my fresh salmon didn’t get warm and I feel better for having taught someone how to use the checkout!

This is just not going to happen...

any time soon. I just don’t have the time to devote to this goal.
