Before you get to excited about this one, let me tell you that it was pretty low key! It was certainly NOT a formal gallery. They did, however, feature my work at their Fall Festival. This gave me opportunity to be seen by the public. My hope is that it will generate business. I was also extended an invitation to join the art guild locally. They would refer people to me for a commission. I am still thinking on that one.

How I did it: I started researching long before I ever attempted to set up a tank. I found a 58 gal Oceanic aquarium on Craigslist, and started there. I added equipment one piece at a time until I have enough basics to start up. I talked to people that had saltwater aquariums to get tips and pointers, and also joined several saltwater forums. The advice that I have received from them has been invaluable! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I spent several months research DSLR cameras to understand their features and functions. I settled on a Canon digital Rebel xt, because it more than met my needs and was closer to my price range. I had experience with Canon as my other P&S camera was a Canon. I also had a Canon film SLR, I talked to several people about cameras to find out what they liked and why to help make an informed decision on what kind of came… Read how I did it…
I am wanting to purchase a building in my town to use as an art gallery/photography studio. The complication is that someone else has decided that the building is needed in another capacity, and I feel that it would be better served for my purposes, as if I get it, I will make contingencies for their desired use.
Soo… my plan at this point, is to write up a convincing business proposal presenting my plans and how I would incorporate their thoughts. This proposal would then be brought before the city council. Let’s see how THAT will work out.
But first things first… I need to learn how to write a business proposal!!
I have been working quite diligently to start a photography business. I have an official name registered with my state. I have a very small clientele, but that is growing. There are not many photographers locally here so if I can keep up the word of mouth advertising and referrals to my website, I believe that I will be able to at least support my business.
My goal this week is to contact the local schools and request permission to post flyers offering high school senior portraits. My other goals week, in regard to selling my photography, is to get a proof book to a senior from last week, and to finish editing the photos from the maternity shoot I did yesterday.
