How I did it: I had made an appointment 3 weeks prior. A girl at my work and I had been throwing the idea around when we were going through difficult breakups, and were both feelings invincible. After a while, the idea went to the backburner until I rekindled my interest after seeing a friend's photos. We decided to make an appointment in April to receive a student discount. How I did it: The first time I sat in line and was so scared, I became teary-eyed during the 2 hour wait. And then went on again... and again... because I had so much fun. I was driving to Detroit this afternoon to buy some art supplies, and I noticed on my way back out of the city, that nearly every overpass was tagged on EACH pillar! I am going to be an art teacher, and plan on teaching a unit on graffiti. But I remembered something an artist once told me, “How can you teach what you haven’t experienced?” I saw one bridge that had some of the most beautiful, colorful designs. I’m hoping to go back soon to photograph it… and maybe start some of my own!
I haven’t drawn anything serious since I graduated – nearly 2 years ago. I’ve done little commissioned things, and doodles on bar napkins out of boredom.
