in ‘04 a bunch of friends and i hosted a grassroots fundraiser for john kerry called “kegs for kerry”. it raised a good amount of money for the campaign and registered almost a dozen new voters and introduced two people who eventually got married. even tho i was (am?) a hillary girl, we’re still gonna do an obama fundraiser this summer – hence burgers for barack (we’ve even got two giant burger pinatas). so if you’re in the LA area whichever weekend in august we do it, stop on by. and stay tuned for updates!
i’ve got to say i made a reasonable facsimile using the following:
3 c. greek yogurt
2/3 c. sugar
1 persian cucumber
1/4 c. fresh mint
1 tsp. orange flower water
Puree cucumber and mint in a food processor, then strain through a cheese cloth. Add orange flower water. In a separate bowl, mix the yogurt and sugar. Slowly add in some of the liquid mixture, stirring and tasting until you’ve reached your desired flavor (you may use as little as half the liquid, so go slow and taste often). Once everything is blended, put it immediately in an ice cream maker and mix until desired consistency has been reached.
