I watched the Northern Lights on two successive nights while visiting Glennallen, Alaska. One night I parked my rented 4WD truck at a place called Simpson’s Hill and lay on the hood for more than an hour, watching the greenish streams dance across the sky. The next night I drove to Gulkana Airport and stood in a wide-open field under a crystal-clear sky and had an even better view. Breathtaking.

I was certified as an EMT in Virginia in 1989, and worked both with a local rescue squad and with the Civil Air Patrol. I have found that I really miss the satisfaction I used to get from doing something that really made a difference, and from helping people in a real, immediate sort of way. I have been kicking around the idea of re-certifying here in Georgia for years. Maybe this will get me going.
