How I did it: Basically, I just followed the guidelines that were made by my school, which is extremely concerned with environmental sustainability. We do simple things like make sure things are unplugged if we're not using them, and shutting off lights when we leave. Then it gets to be a bit more complicated with composting, but the school makes it pretty simple. We also have programs to compete between the dorms for how much energy can be saved. How I did it: First, I trained myself to recognize when I was being too hard on myself or holding myself accountable for things outside of my control.Next, I learned how to deal with these negative energies, deal with them, and then let them go. It took me a long time, but as soon as I made a conscious effort to do so, I didn't find it too difficult to be a better person towards myself. Read how I did it…
1. Get over my physical intimacy problems so I can build a long-lasting, sustainable relationship with Luke.
Last night I talked about my experiences as a rape victim in front of fifty people at a Take Back the Night Event. It was a big deal for me. I think I’m renewing my efforts, although I can count this one as completed.
2. Do crazy things.
I want to get a tattoo! Setting up plans with my brother for getting it towards the end of the summer.
3. Get back into writing—write something I can be proud of and can finish.
I’m writing all the time, so check.
4. Do better at school—I want to get straight A’s for the Spring and Fall 2009 semesters.
I’m definitely not getting all A’s, but I’m doing pretty well.
5. Spend one day a week at school with a different group of people (i.e., not Luke, not just Matt on his own.)
Making new friends all over the place.
6. Get back into running. Train strongly and rock my 2009 xc season.
I quit running and it’s turned out to be a more successful goal for me.
7. Run GMR again.
I’m driving in a month? If things work out… they probably won’t…
8. Complete ten more things by the end of the year—so I’ll have 50 completed goals.
Gotta get on that!
9. Be a good person.
As low as my self-esteem has been lately, I can say that through all my volunteering and befriending that I’m being a good person this year.
10. Become more involved in my school.
I’m involved with everything.
1. Get over my physical intimacy problems so I can build a long-lasting, sustainable relationship with Luke.
I’m counting this one as complete, since I did get over a lot of my problems before we broke up.
2. Do crazy things.
I’m involved with so many things, and I’m trying to say yes as often as possible.
3. Get back into writing—write something I can be proud of and can finish.
This is going extremely well right now. Hopefully I’ll have a first draft done my the end of the month!
4. Do better at school—I want to get straight A’s for the Spring and Fall 2009 semesters.
I need to work on Arabic, but my other subjects are going well, I think.
5. Spend one day a week at school with a different group of people (i.e., not Luke, not just Matt on his own.)
I’ve been hanging out with all sorts of people outside the entry since Luke and I broke up and I’ve had time to be with others. I’ve been meeting people and going out to eat with them. So fun.
6. Get back into running. Train strongly and rock my 2009 xc season.
Eh. Went once. It’s nice for a stress buster now and then, but I don’t really miss it yet. May do the elliptical at some point. I’ve been doing abs again, so that’s good.
7. Run GMR again.
I’m driving this year. It’s all good.
8. Complete ten more things by the end of the year—so I’ll have 50 completed goals.
Five more to go!
9. Be a good person.
Lately, this has been about me paying more attention to my friends and less time whining about my own life, which is pretty awesome, I might say.
10. Become more involved in my school.
I have some sort of volunteer commitment, club commitment, or school commitment every day of the week, and I’m loving it. I may not do cross country next week just because I really don’t want to miss out on all of this.
