become a police officer (read all 5 entries…)
Things are underway 2 years ago

Well, I’m three weeks into my college courses. Week four starts on Monday. I’m doing well. I have all A’s so far. I know that I have to take all of these basic courses before I can start the real criminal justice classes, but I am anxious for them to start. I know how to write persuasive essays. I know how to make APA format references. I want to get to the MEAT of the classes. Anyway, patience is a virtue, right? Six more weeks of these two classes and then something new starts.

I’ve talked with my husband about my goals and our situation. He hates his job and wants to get a degree and get a better job. I’ve set a goal of being a cop on the force one year from now. That means I’ve got about six months to lose the weight I want to lose and get in shape. I have to start getting my aps out and taking preliminaries. Then the academy. I think it can be done in a year. Especially knowing that I’m already on the payroll for a police department that is looking for new officers. When I get a little more weight off, I’ll go talk to my commander or the chief and let them know my intentions. I get a little more excited about this every day.

go to the Olympics
Just one time. 2 years ago

I don’t care what event, I don’t care what city, I don’t care if it’s summer or winter, I just want to go to the olympics just once. I’d love to just be there and soak up all the excitement. Maybe once the new stadium is built here, we’ll have enough venues to host a summer olympics in Dallas/Fort Worth. Here’s hoping.

get in shape
Not just losing weight. 2 years ago

There’s a difference between losing weight and getting in shape. Not all thin people are in good shape. You can be thin and also be very weak, have no stamina, and no muscle tone. I’ve been thinking about the body I want to have as I enter the field of law enforcement and I realize that I can’t just lose weight, I also have to get in shape. I need to pack on some muscle, be able to lift, do sit-ups, push-ups, and have some strength. What good will it be to me if I ever got into a physical altercation with a suspect and I can’t hold my own? Or if I ever had to chase a suspect on foot. I’d lose him fast if I can’t run more than a couple of blocks without keeling over. So, I’m adding stamina, strength, and overall good shape to my list of 43 things.
