Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Bake a Pie with my Grandma by Christmas
Not so in love with the pie

Okay, so my grandma made a pie and it was not good. So now I don’t want to really learn how to bake a pie with her. Dang.

Learn to make wood furniture

I would like to make a coffee table and some end tables for us, and then perhaps do it as a hobby to make some side cash. I would use a combo of wood and slate.

Organize a food eating contest of some sort. I've always wanted to see one in real life.
A pie eating contest or something would be good for a huge laugh

I’m thinking that I might like to organize a pie eating contest or something. Just a timed event, not to see how much a person can eat, because that would be just gross. I’m sure it would be good for a laugh to actually see a pie eating contest in real life. Anybody seen one?

For now I give up on this… no time, not really an important part of my life.

#4 - another Burnaby Mountain Ride

Did a good hour-long ride today in the beautiful September weather. I went right around the back of Burnaby Mountain, then up Cardiac Hill. I can see why it’s called that, I almost died (in a good way… I think). I then drove through SFU which was cool – so many buildings have gone up since I attended there. Then back down the Watermain trail.

I need to get my breaks to stop squeaking. How do I do that?

YAY, course outlines done.

Don't play Catan for all of August

IT’s nice to not play Catan – I was so addicted. After my time not playing was over, I only played 2 games and that was enough for me.

Don't take/use any new plastic bags until September (read all 2 entries…)
YES! Plastic bag sucks and I rocked at not taking new plastic bags.

I think for all of August I only took a plastic bag once because I had to. I can’t remember what it was for – I think maybe for bulk food of some sort. Other than that, I didn’t take any new grocery bags or produce bags or shopping bags. Nothing. Just used my cloth bags, or if I forgot those, I carried things.

I’m going to see how long I can not take any more plastic bags for.

Because we used to put our garbage into plastic grocery bags, we had to look for an alternative. So now I have 100% biodegradable composting bags that I’m using, made from recycled stuff. Better than the grocery store bags, I’m sure.

Convince BECK to play the banjo when he comes to Vancouver in August. One time I made a poster & brought it to the concert, but he ignored me. The nerve. haha. Need a new strategy. (read all 3 entries…)
Beck I still love you but don't tour if you're sick of it.

Not only did he not play the banjo, but that was actually a pretty mediocre, disappointing concert. booooo. It was obvious that he is tired of touring, he didn’t have that energy and connection with the audience that he usually has. Boooooo. He definitely had some good songs, but the sound quality at the Orpheum just wasn’t the same as other places he’s played (Queen E, Plaza of Nations).

Try a New Recipe before September
Made Lamb Stew!

The weather has been so incredibly crappy this last week of August that I decided to get the crock pot out and make a lamb stew. I got the recipe off of (love that site), and it turned out fabulously. Highly recommended!

Set up my home office ergonomically so that my neck/shoulder/back strain is reduced

Well I put my computer on top of the counter in the living room so that I can stand and work at it. It seems to be a lot better than my chair set-up in the office. I’ll see how this does me over the next few weeks. It would be a nice, cheap solution.

Create a New Exercise Spreadsheet for the Fall
Spreadsheets created... I started using them today!

I might need to adjust them, but I’ll see how the next couple of weeks go.

#9. I love rivers

I love to look at rivers, listen to them, and swim in them, especially glacier-fed rivers. Here’s a picture of one of my favourites. My hubby and I made a pathway (moved the large rocks) so that we had a good place to run and jump in the water. This is seriously the more refreshing river ever.

#11, Brookside mixed fruit & nut

I bought this for a friend, and she shared with me. These are pretty good! I wonder if I’ll ever not like a chocolate I try.

I couldn’t find a picture of this, but this swiss chocolate was to die for. Best milk chocolate.

Ride #3 - Burnaby Mountain

Yesterday I finally got my bike out again. I went for an hour and a half ride up & around Burnaby Mountain (I made it around the whole thing). Parts of the trails I went on were really rooty/rocky going uphill, and some parts were super steep, so I walked part way. Overall a good ride though. I wish I brought some fruit to eat half way.

Make Muesli this week
Mmmmm.... Muesli

I had originally had Make Tea Biscuits as this goal because I wanted to use up the Crisco that was in my closet for years. However, when I looked at the ingredients, I just couldn’t put that shit into my body (the first two ingredients are hydrogenated this and hydrogenated that). So, I threw that shit out (it was old and gross anyway), and instead I made muesli. So delicious! Here’s the recipe:

I added flax seeds, hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, dried apricots, banana chips, raisins, crystalized ginger and cinnamon to this recipe. also, I didn’t have olive oil so i used butter – and it turned out so good!

Definitely a keeper recipe.

#8. Frey Lemon & Pepper Chocolate

A co-worker just brought this back for me from Europe. Swiss chocolate I think. It is quite interesting, as I’ve never had lemon chocolate before, and the pepper isn’t too strong, so it’s just a little hint of spiciness. Overall a nice experience.

#7. Cadbury Hazelnut

Also bought for smores, already ate the leftovers. I’m a chocolate monster.
