How I did it: I learned progressively. Slowly playing genres that get harder and harder as you progress. I started out playing emo music. Now I play straight-up death metal (the music i listen to anyway). Learn songs from bands, learn excercises, practice them, and you will be great. You can hire a teacher if you want. i taught myself. Ambitious with music
How I did it: I never thought I'd actually join a death metal band. When I was 16 I picked up guitar, and started looking up how to play it, basic techniques. Ultimate-guitar.com really helped. I progressed, practicing different scales and excercises a day for about 3-5 hours each day. Eventually, I got good. Formed a 'screamo' band. I had sex once. It was with one of my band’s groupies, and it was BRUTAL, like our death metal music! That was a while ago though. I’ve been craving it again, but I kinda lock up when talking to women.
