I’m originally from Seattle and a month before I moved to New Orleans (in 1991) I met someone who told me “you’ll never be able to leave”...”uh, yeah right” I thought…well, it’s true. While I have left physically (back in Seattle now), I cannot for the life of me, leave mentally or with my heart. I mean, it’s been 10 years now since I’ve lived there, but I think about the city almost every day. I went back last year to visit friends and hope to make it back again this year. I don’t know what to do about New Orleans…do you go back to the love that causes more anguish than you can imagine, or do you take the calmer (and drier) road….?
Reading Chris Rose’s articles for the Times-Picayunne in New Orleans is humbling and heartening, and can make me cry. Being a girl who’s first true love is the city of New Orleans, I am grounded by his humor and relevance about what that dear city is going through. I am thousands of miles away from the city I once called home, however, I will always consider New Orleans my hearts home. Read them and find out…..
