I want to find some volunteering activity I can do weekly, after work. Something like visit a retirement home, or help out with a soup kitchen. Something that involves real people (unlike cleaning a yard at a church.)
I’ve tried being a “Classroom Buddy” at a local elementary school. The students really like me, but I felt like I was more of a distraction from legitimate learning than I was actually helping. Plus, it was during work hours, which made it tough to do regularly.
I’ve also helped at a few scattered individual events like a soup kitchen or Special Olympics, but I really want to be a regular contributer.
I feel like I know bits and pieces about different political issues, but I’d like to be able to be more of an expert and converse intelligently on a variety of topics.
