More things that make me happy:

23: Reading what I’ve written before about what makes me happy. Really brings a smile to my face.

24: Getting Christmas cards from friends.

25: Watching someone eat something delicious I’ve cooked specially for them.

26: The quiet of a winter afternoon after it’s snowed, when nobody is around, in the woods or the forest or a little back road.

27: Driving around Japan on the back roads, through farms and fields and mountains, using a map and a compass to avoid the freeways.

28: Body surfing, especially when you get just the right wave. The waves on the Atlantic (U.S. East Coast) are unbeatable for this.

29: The smells of fresh baking—breads, cookies, even casseroles.

30: Sitting under a bower of blooming wisteria.

I don’t remember where I left off (can’t see my own darned entry), but I’ll assume I did 6 already. So here goes:

7: The smell of ozone when it’s just started a spring rain.

8: When my can purrs loudly as I stroke her.

9: A massage that blisses me out.

10: Eating a day-old tunafish sandwich, the kind where the lettuce has gone wilty and the white bread is a bit moist with the tuna. (Mind you, I haven’t had one of these things for maybe a decade, but the thought of it makes me happy.)

11: Feeling powerful in my own body.

12: Hearing a man say to me, “You are so beautiful!”

13: Laughing until it feels like my head is going to explode. You know, the kind of non-stop laughter that just builds on itself, until you feel the back of your head tingle. One time I laughed so hard that I practically passed out! It was great!

14: Noticing that I’m smiling as I write down the things that make me happy.

15: Cool, clean sheets in the summer time, in a freshly made bed.

16: Spooning.

17: Watching the squirrels and birds frolic in my back yard. Especially while I’m drinking a home-made latte on a Saturday morning.

18: Oral sex. (Well, good sex, period.)

19: Being in the water, just floating, or in a warm ocean, riding the waves.

20: The feeling of somnolence after spending a summer’s day at the beach in the water and the sun.

21: The very first evening of a week-long (or more) vacation.

22: Leisurely drives on sun-dappled roads, surrounded by redwoods.

Survive this heartbreak (read all 2 entries…)
I'm surviving! 4 years ago

I’m surviving the heartbreak! I’m feeling better—no more nausea and shaking. No more desperate thoughts. I’ve let go, and I’m well on my way to healing. One wonderful resource is a book called “Surviving the Loss of Love.” Highly recommend it.
