Things I’m grateful for today:
1. Co-workers that I get along with and like. It definitely makes work much more enjoyable when people are friendly and respectful to one another. I’ve worked in places where that was not the case and the atmosphere was horrid.
2. My years of French classes. While I’m by no means fluent, my general knowledge of the language is helping me recognize similar words in Italian. They’re not super similar, but enough that it’s a help for me.
3. Mass transit. The stars aligned this morning and I had perfect timing for the bus and el. Pretty excellent for a rainy day.
4. Clearance sales at bookstores.
5. Snuggly kitties. There’s one purring on my lap right now.

How I did it: After a late night out, the last thing I wanted to do was get up in the morning, but then I remembered that it was the day of the 43Things meetup. Since I had been looking forward to it for a while I made myself get ready and out the door. Very glad I did as it was a great time getting to know my fellow 43thingers a bit better. How I did it: One of my friends sent me a posting calling for extras for the Dark Knight movie when it was filming in Chicago. She and I both volunteered through a nonprofit which meant our pay would go to the nonprofit. We were cast for an outdoor crowd scene. We got an email letting us know what to wear (dark clothes befitting a cool autumn day), and where and what time to show up (unbelievably early). We spent 12 hours on the set, most of it on… Read how I did it…
I’m struggling a bit with this right now. I think I’m noticing it now mostly because I’m trying to make a few changes and take more chances on things. I need to find more effective ways of dealing with my stress instead of letting it snowball until I’m a bundle of nerves.
And in about six weeks I’ll be visiting Rome! Perhaps in the meantime I’ll do some planning and try to learn a little Italian.
