How I did it: It took me while to figure out what I needed to do to make more of an effort to meet new people. This is what worked for me:*Be more aware of new people around you (at work, church, in the neighborhood etc). *Always introduce yourself - don't be afraid to make the first move! There is no harm in a simple introduction.*Make an effort to organize a social event to get to know someone better, and do it many times. *Not everyone will be your … Read how I did it…
How I did it: A year before the big event I coordinated with my Mom that we would all meet the following year for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. We had all the other family member commit to coming and gave them a full year to plan financially. It all worked out perfectly and was worth all the effort that was put into it. Read how I did it…
I have been thinking lately what it really means to be a better friend. So I wrote down the qualities in my closest friends that I admire and that make them such good friends to me.
-Loyalty
-Patience
-Compassion, not just toward me but toward everyone
-Acceptance of people, non-judgemental
-Tolerant and forgiving
-Honest with others
-Charitable and kind
-Loving and gentle
-Genuine, grounded
-Confident in themselves and in others
-Unselfish
There are other qualities that I did not list, but these are the ones that I felt were the qualities that have been part of the solid foundation for my friendships that have stood the test of time. There is one particular friend that I have that is amazing. We have been through rough patches but those times have only strengthened us, not tore us apart.
I have been much better at studying my Spanish materials. My husband (who is from Bolivia) is also being better at helping me out. He is so used to speaking in English to me that he doesn’t think to switch gears.
We found out three months ago that we are expecting and we decided long ago that we would raise our children bilingual. So I have new motivation to pick up on my skills.
