Most of my 30s were spent living in Los Angeles, one of the most amazing cities in the world. During that decade of my life I taught in south Los Angeles, worked in film, wrote a huge body of work, deployed to Iraq, and went to Europe several times.
I feel my 30s were good because I built a lot of momentum in my 20s to do what I wanted. The fun, and generally positive experience was really the result of planning, being opportunistic, and making my own luck. I really put myself out there and made things happen.

During my twenties I went to Europe a few times, taught English once in Taiwan and twice Korea, graduated from university, worked as an archeologist, and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve.
Most importantly, I met/married my wife. That relationship has lasted through my thirties, and is even stronger into my forties.
My twenties were an amazing time, and the only regrets I have are I didn’t do even more.
Lesson Learned: Set the bar high and do as much cool shit as possible. Then make your thirties even better.

I have received a lot of compliments on the pictures I’ve taken here. I focus on the kids, because they are so different than the kids at home — but they are still very similar.
The kids constantly ask for chocolate and pens. They also know that a soldier’s cargo pocket is where we carry candy.
Anyway, I like what I am doing, and will write a book about the experience. I plan on using the pictures from here for the book and a photo exhibit.
