Done one 24-hour fast and one 36-hour fast, though not in the extreme way that purists recommend (IE, I used store-bought juices. Because I wasn’t about to spend 100+ dollars on a juicer till I had an idea of whether or not I was really interested in/capable of making this a bigger part of me life.) On the down side, is was very uncomfortable and nerve-wrecking, I didn’t feel many of the positive effects that one is supposed to feel (probably because they were short, practice fasts) and, come to find out, I just REALLY don’t like juice.
On the up side, I adored the way people reacted to the news that I had decided to go a day or so without solid food, as if I was accomplishing some herculean task, beyond them in their bourgeous, fast-food loving existence. And it teaches you a lot about self-control, and makes you appreciate anything solid, even if it is good for you—like, if you want to lose weight, I’d recommend trying juice fasting for a day or two, then slowly letting yourself eat solid foods, adding a couple of healthy foods at a time. (IE, for 36 hours, only drink juice. Then, the next day or whatever, let yourself have fruit as well. Next day, juice, fruit and salad. Next day, juice, fruit, salad and low-fat dairy. Because what will happen is after 36 hours of only juice, you’ll be so happy to be able to freaking bite down on something, you won’t care what it is.)
So, not astounding, but this was something I wanted to work towards, and I’m working towards it. Now that, that is something.

First and foremost, I think it’s really important for women in the know to spread the word about Vaginismus. Most women who suffer won’t understand what’s happening to them at first, and, even more damaging, many of the healthcare professionals they will turn to won’t have heard of it, either, and will make damaging misdiagnosises, or dismiss the complaint as being a simple need to “relax”. Personally, I have started a blog on the matter (Which admittedly, needs more work and attention), given a presentation about it in my public speaking course at college, and, most importantly, had candid conversations about it with everyone I know who’s been the least bit curious, in the hopes that one day, they might be able to give the information to someone who might need it, or, at the very least, listen in a more informed, compassionate way.
One day, I hope to start a fund for furthering the cause, which will focus on awareness, and also providing funds for women to go through the costly treatment, ideally at a place like the Women’s Therapy Center, where they can hopefully face their problems dead-on instead of years of trying all sorts of different kinds of therapies, only to find themselves at another dead end. However, I do take issue with the exorbinantly expense of the facility, which is why…
I’m considering going to school for psychology and becoming someone who can do the actual curing. So many areas do not have a professional who has any experience treating this problem, and I’d like to see that change. If I ever do get there, though, there’s no damn way I’ll ever charge more than I have to, unlike our long island friends.
What about you? What can you do to help further the cause?

It’s gonna go down on halloween.
As my husband said, “His treats are gonna get tricked.”
