Double-shot tai chi! 3 years ago

I’ve found two different tai chi classes to join – one’s more martial arts oriented, one’s more meditative. Now I’m going to class three days a week, so that means I’m practicing more, so I don’t confuse the two (the martial arts class is teaching Yang Short Form, the meditative class is teaching Yang Long Form).

I had a cleaning at the dentist last week, and am using it as a starting point (it’s better to start with nice clean teeth, right?). Now I’ve flossed every day for a week! :D



learn Tai Chi
Back to basics 3 years ago

I studied Tai Chi (Yang short form) for three years, but that was five years ago. My instructor had to stop teaching to care for his sick wife. The new instructors were amazing prctictioners of Tai Chi, but not good teachers – at least, not good for me. I stopped going to class.

I recently learned of a different class, and have been practicing again for a month and a half with an instructor who’s actually from China. Her approach is very different. My former class was more meditative, my new class is more martial-arts focused.

The funny thing is, I enjoy them both. If you like the idea of tai chi, but don’t really ‘connect’ with the practice, try a different class. A good fit with your instructor can make a world of difference!
