Found an old college friend on facebook, so glad we have reconnected. Wow, how the years have passed!

Former Canadian Olympian Cassie Campbell made history Saturday night as a colour analyst alongside legendary broadcaster Bob Cole at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
With veteran colour commentator Harry Neale snowed in at his home in Buffalo, N.Y., Hockey Night in Canada executive producer Joel Darling gave Campbell the chance to call the game between the Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Cassie Campbell became the first woman to do colour commentary on a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast Saturday night at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
“We made the decision at 11 a.m. [Saturday morning] and she was very positive about the opportunity,” Darling told Sports Online.
“It isn’t easy for anyone to come into a situation like this, but she did a great job.”
When Darling informed Campbell of the news, the former Olympian joked that “it was like [National team coach] Melody Davidson telling me to play goal for the Canadian women’s team.”
The 32-year-old Brampton, Ont., native is the third woman to be part of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada team, but the first to do colour during a broadcast.
Brenda Irving was the first woman to take part in 2001, and Martine Gaillard followed as an intermission and post-game reporter.
Campbell, who retired from the Canadian women’s hockey team in August, was hired to do rinkside reporting this season and made her debut last Saturday in Calgary.
Former U.S. women’s team captain Cammi Granato was a sideline reporter for NBC’s NHL games last season.
During the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, Campbell became the only Canadian hockey player, male or female, to captain a national team to two Olympic gold medals.
She was also a member of the gold medal team at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.
The five-foot-seven, 150-pound blue-liner scored 32 goals and 68 assists in 157 career games for the national team.
For having the guts to take on the boys!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Hayley Wickenheiser (born August 12, 1978) is a women’s ice hockey player for Canada. She was also the first woman to play full time professional hockey at a position other than goalie. Wickenheiser has represented Canada at the Winter Olympics three times, capturing two gold and one silver medal. She has also captured six gold medals at World Championships and 10 gold medals from Nations Cup tournaments throughout her career. Her international hockey career began when she was fifteen at the Women’s World Hockey Championships. She has been a mainstay on Team Canada since then. In addition to her hockey career, Wickenheiser has also played softball at an elite level. She represented Canada at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Her cousin was the late National Hockey League player, Doug Wickenheiser.
My volunteer work for the last few months has been a joint venture / adventure with my mum, purchasing groceries for a homeless shelter in Timmins, Ontario.
At Thanksgiving, the shelter was robbed. The following week we hit the supermarket and purchased whatever we could to feed a group of 30 and then travelled up to Timmins to deliver it.
In November, I cashed in my Air Miles for supermarket gift certificates and purchased groceries for the shelter.
This week I used my Christmas money and gift certs to Wal-Mart to purchase another load of groceries.
It makes my mum and I feel awesome to do this, it’s the only shelter in the area for men, and some women do live there as well. The guys are so polite and helpful when we show up, they eagerly unload the car and smile when they see stuff like a big bucket of ice cream and packages of chocolate chip cookies!

Timmins’ only homeless shelter has been given “the nicest Christmas present” it could receive, says the chairman of the Good Samaritan Inn.
The shelter, which had been raising money to replace an old, faulty heating system, was presented with a new boiler at wholesale cost.
A manufacturer also donated the circulating pump while another firm did the installation for free.
The old boiler was about 30 years old and “on its last legs,” said Ed Ligocki, board chairman.
“The system was breaking down on the coldest days last year — I think six times in one month. And the heating bills were extremely high between $2,000 and $2,500 per month. It was a real wasteful, inefficient system.
“Now we have the high-efficiency system that is not going to break down and if it does, it’s under warranty.”
Ligocki said the money saved from heating bills will enable the shelter “to put more food on the table, and better food on the table as a result of this.”
Rob Floreani, owner of Northern Mechanical Services in Timmins, demonstrated how “rotten” the old boiler was by running his finger along a crevice and sweeping out flakes of rusted metal.
“Originally, they (Good Samaritan Inn) came to us asking for a quote, they were going out for quotes on heating systems and I went to my suppliers, explained this was a good cause and we were looking to get stuff donated if they could,” Floreani said. “They came back and some of them donated product and others heavily discounted it. So we were able to give the Good Samaritan Inn what it costs us for the product and Northern Mechanical Services donated the material and labour at no charge to make this project feasible.
“What we did for the Good Samaritan Inn, we provided a very high-end heating system, new boiler, high efficient pumps. Together with my company and our suppliers, Wolseley Mechanical Group, manufacturer Weil-McLain and Wilo Pumps who donated product or heavily discounted the product, we were able to install a top-notch heating system for a cost that was very affordable for them.”
Floreani said Wilo is an expensive but highly efficient circulating pump that should reduce the shelter’s use of natural gas by 30-50%, especially once the building has new energy efficient windows installed.
“That’s our next step, to replace our windows,” Ligocki said. “We’re about halfway through the campaign right now on replacing the windows so hopefully by springtime we will put new windows in the place, thanks to the generosity of people in Timmins and area.”
The Good Samaritan Inn is set up to shelter to 22 homeless people but Ligocki anticipates by New Year’s they’ll be accommodating 40 residents.
My mum is amazing at remembering to wear her red on Fridays. Sadly, we have lost four more soldiers, and a reporter. God Bless them.
I have been away from 43things for a while, not sure why, because I really love it. I think Facebook has taken over my time, it’s way too addictive! Part of my Flylady routines involves my cleaning lady, there are a few core things she does every week, then we decide what else, little extras, need to be done. She is amazing, so organized and fun to talk with and be around too! It has become that I love having my apartment clean and tidy, that “smell of clean” is the best!!
Mum and I worked on emptying out the car yesterday after shopping. Most of the time we make one trip upstairs and some bags are left in the car, plus the clutter from the trip, the empty coffee cups, tissues, etc. I have an old empty kitty litter bucket in the back seat with garbage can liners in it, so there is no excuse for the car to not stay tidy! Feels great to have a tidy car!
The clean part is fine, I have a weekly cleaning lady, and I just love her, it’s worth every penny.
The organized part .. it’s still a work in progress.
350.0 even this morning.
Ahhh, life is returning to normal, feeling much better, just a little tired, and my appetite has returned. Now .. must remember moderation! LOL
351.2 lbs.
Feeling very ‘crappy’ today. My diet consists of Imodium, Gravol and one banana. Mum’s gone to the hospital with a bump on her head and pain in her arm, our neighbour accompanied her, which I am thankful for .. but at the same time feel like a rotten daughter for not being able to go. :-(

I ate a real meal yesterday! woo hoo .. my neighbour served me a couple of burgers with some potato salad and macaroni salad, then some of her birthday cake. Of course, not the healthiest food, it’s what the bday girl wanted though.
Now, I’m going to have Weetabix for breakfast, with soy milk and berries .. and a glass of vegetable juice .. then curl up with the cat, back in bed.
What are your exciting plans for this Sunday?
Hugs, if you want one,
Julie Andrea
352.5 lbs
Ick .. this isn’t a good way to lose weight, being sick! :-(
It’s cold, blowing snow, generally an ick day here, good one to stay in bed (again) with the cat and Nyquil.
How are you all doing this Saturday, what are your plans?
Hugs, if you want one,
Julie Andrea
353.9 lbs.
Taking a NyQuil shot and going back to bed. How is everyone else out there doing?
Hugs, if you want one,
Julie Andrea
355.8 lbs.
I am sick with an icky cold (Thanks Mum). I feel like I am something the cat hacked up. Didn’t eat much today, a muffin, a pot of tea and a taco salad plus a couple of NyQuil shots.
Hope you are all well and winning the race. I won’t give you hugs today, unless you want one, LOL

356.7 lbs.
Mum and I are heading out for the day, she has an appointment at the hospital in Timmins. This is a weak point for me, eating while ‘out and about’, I tend to have eyes that are larger than my belly and over-do my portions. Must remember .. moderation!
How are you doing today? Any tips for eating while ‘out on the road’?
Hugs, if you want one,
Julie Andrea
Good Morning Team
358.5 lbs this morning
I’m going to stick with the shake for breakfast and lunch, vegetable juice, water, herbal tea in between and a decent dinner.
It’s -20C this morning, hoping it will warm up so I can get in a walk today, going to the chiropractor later.
What’s your plan for today?
Hugs, if you want one,
Julie Andrea
Okay .. here goes .. big gulp .. I am posting my weight
361.4 lbs.
I am so ashamed. How did I become this weight when I was in the 140’s in high school? Where did this ‘extra person’ come from?
Last night I went for a walk with my neighbour, 25 mins, stopped for a herbal tea (it was a cold walk) and then home another 25 mins.
I ate breakfast this morning – a shake made with soy milk, a sad looking banana and two scoops of WellBetX Powder – which came out surprisingly GOOD, I can do this! BF for me is sometimes a challenge, my mind doesn’t work too well in the morning. LOL
Hope you are all in good spirits team, I’m off to a yard sale for 8 a.m. (in the freezing cold, what were they thinking?)
Hugs, if you want one,
Julie Andrea
