I am making progress on this now – this entry is being typed very slowly using the Dvorac layout. I found a wonderful site at:
http://dvorak.nl/learn.plp
I have found over the last two days that I don’t tend to improve during the day but wake up and can immediately type more fluently. The training seems to take a good night’s sleep to sink in.
P.S. This site lists my posts as being one day apart. It has in fact been two in my time zone. I didn’t learn that quickly!

I just started doing this today with a couple of hours of Dvorak practice. I have to confess I’m typing this entry on QWERTY since I don’t know very many keys yet – I’ve started working through:
http://gigliwood.com/abcd/abcd.html
I’ve worked through the keys o,e,u,h,t, and n so far. My QWERTY speed is about 45 WPM but I move my hands an insane amount all over the keyboard.
My main reason for switching is to deliberately extinguish bad muscle memory and replace it with a proper typing style. I have no ill effects yet (other than the odd twinge) but with my existing typing style I would expect to have RSI by my late twenties (I am now 19). This switch allows me to both get rid of existing bad habits and switch to a safer keyboard layout at the same time.
