I picked up skating because it was my boyfriends favorite pastime. He tried to help me as much as he could in the beginning, but ultimately it was up to me if I was going to succeed or not.
It began with learning to push, and of course learning to slow myself down. I then began riding vert, backside kickturn came more easily to me, a year later I learnt how to frontside kickturn. All along I continued to practice my ollie until I was able to do it while rolling. Then came pop shuvs and 180’s. I still have difficulty timing my ollie and I haven’t mastered the coping yet.
My advice is if you can get some time in on a mini ramp it'll really help you with learning the basics of riding vert.I’m just coming into my third summer of skating and i still get frustrated with myself but out of nowhere i’ll land the trick i’ve been working at for months! and the feeling of accomplishment and self gratitude that comes over you when you land it is amazing.
Compared to many other skaters I started very late, i’m 22 and a female. I may be at the same level as some 13 year olds but I wouldn’t trade this for the world. :) Happy Skating to you all :)
