Ok, I have done with this, and I’m happy. At the end:
- ipod works perfectly on win if you have a firewire
- ipod doesn’t work very well via usb2 on my Acer Travelmate 2600, but I was able to download some music at least one more time
- ipod works perfectly via usb2 on another laptop from a friend of mine
I’m going to buy a pcmcia firewire card.
Last but not least ipod itself is a lot usable, I Like it.
What a pain if you use windows! :-)

Current state is:
- no way to format fat32 unless using a firewire
- I was able to access ipod through usb2 only the first time and never again
- I’m currently using it with a firewire
I still don’t know if I’m happy or not. The player itself is wonderful, anyway.

tons of problems, same as:
after restoring through a firewire (thanks gil & god) I was able to donwload ~780 Mb in more than 10 minutes (I supposed that an USB2 should be faster) but now I am not able to manage it anymore
I start thinking that on my laptop I need to buy a pcmcia firewire card
shame on apple & microsoft together
