find my totem animal
Untitled 17 months ago

Today I found my animal guides.
Well, maybe not found, but finally discovered them.
You see, for some reason I was looking around about.com, reading what they had to say on natural healing (like burning incense and smudging, ect), well I also found a page about animal totems.

A couple of years ago I had started looking into the wicca culture and was reading about animal totems. I tried to do the meditations to summon them, but because I was so skeptical, it didn’t work for me.

Well, like I stated above, I was reading a page about guides and how, most of the time, the creatures find you. I simply rolled my eyes and started getting ready to go out with my friends.

My friends and I ended up at the mall, trying to get a newly released game (Civilization Revelation). I noticed a game that had to do werewolves or something like that, but I clearly remember a small wolf’s head etching on the cover (part of the cover-art).

While we were eating lunch at Friendly’s, we got into a discussion about Nancy Drew (my friend is an in-the-closet player) and decided that we should go over her house and play the game.

After lunch we found out that we were too full to hang out anymore, but my friend offered to lend my the game. I accepted and, as I waited in my car out front of her house, my thoughts slowly drifted back to the wolf head that, for some reason, was still in my mind. I shrugged it off as me being crazy and only remembering the head because I seriously wanted a wolf to be my guide animal.

When she retrieved the game from her house and handed it to me, I quickly tossed it in the passenger seat and quickly drove off to get my friend home. I could hear sirens and I always get nervous whenever there’s an ambulance or a cop car with sirens on nearby.

After safely getting my friend home, and myself home as well, I really looked at the front of the game. It wasn’t the fact it had to do with wolves that creeped me out, my friend had told me the name of it months before, but it was that the same identical wolf head etching was on the back of the cover. At the point I actually felt my stomach lurch, and I returned to my computer, partly to install the game, but partly to look up wolf spirit guides.

It was the first link I clicked on, near the bottom of the page sat the wolf-head image. In all honesty, I was scared. I thought to myself, ‘This is way more then a coincidence’.

Finally I sighed, sat back, and inwardly gave in. Apparently, my wolf-guide wanted me to know that it was there.

I’m also looking into colleges in Alaska, have been since sophomore year when I got into a discussion with my parents nearby. (Why I chose Alaska is a whole other story). I was looking at totem images on, again about.com, when I came across a picture of a bear.

I have no idea why, but I felt a connection.

It’s like, the bear is connected to me and the first thought that popped into my head was Alaska.

Now, I’m not sure why. It may be that I associate Alaska with bears, but personally I think it’s something deeper.

My final discovery of the day was that there was different types of wolves I was connected to. At first I thought it was a wolf in general that was my guide, but then I saw a picture of an arctic wolf, a gray wolf, and a red wolf.

I had no connection to the picture of the red wolf. But with the arctic wolf and the gray wolf, I found myself pulled towards them.

The gray wolf was the most prominent, but the arctic wolf had about the same hold of me as the bear.

It was as if a foggy window became crystal clear.

The gray wolf is no doubt my life animal guide. I’ve always loved wolves, sorties about wolves, dogs that resembled wolves (my dog is an Alaska Malamute). Like I said before, at first I thought I connected with the wolf because I wanted it to be the wolf. Then I realized I wanted my spirit guide to be a wolf for a reason.

I’m also pretty sure that the bear and the arctic wolf are my journey guides, preparing for my (hopefully) new life in Alaska. It eerily made sense too. I was looking up information on these two, and saw that the bear guide embodies the west wind and the arctic wolf the north wind.

Northwest, exactly where Alaska is in regards to my state

Also, I didn’t connect to a specific kind of bear, like a polar bear or black bear, like I expected to. I think that maybe because I want to go to Alaska, and because there are so many species of bears there, my guide is an embodiment of bears in general. Like when I picture him, it’s just the outline of a bear, like someone roughly drew it.

I’m also thinking that maybe a life in Alaska would be good for me, considering most of my spirit animals can be found there.

Well, I don’t want this to sound too ranty. But now that my eyes opened to what my guides are, I have a new sense of affection towards them, like this big wave of love washed over me for these creatures.

I decided I want to keep something about them with me and I found myself looking at spirit necklaces. And guess what? One of the necklaces has a wolf head, the head that I’ve been seeing ALL day.

I also found that my spirit guide isn’t going to be limited to just one creature, like I thought in the past. I have my wolf guides and my bear guide, but I also have a feeling there are two more out there that are either going to soon be a part of my life, or who I just haven’t discovered yet. Like, I can line up my creatures, but in the background are two silhouettes, two shadows, that once I think I see their shape, change on me.
