I sent out what was classified by said publication as a “short story” of about 45 pages or so. She sent it back saying she liked it, but the ending sucked. Three weeks later, I resubmitted it as a novella of 97 pages. She wrote to me saying it was fantastic and it was published the next month.
Was it worth the fear, the sweat, the effort, the pain and the 24 hour spree of non-stop writing to meet the deadline? Was it worth overcoming the initial sickness of rejection?

Absolutely.

Gah. I was so close. But college was too expensive down there, so for now I’m stuck north. But one day!
