Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Still

on Plan B.
Doing Yoga, crunches, and mild leg lifts etc. No pressure on the left leg, except for some walking. It is going to get better….It is….

total flashback

last night I loaded a patient on to a transport helicopter bound for a “real hospital” I’ve done this numerous times since I have been back in the states. For some reason as I stood back and watched the bird get off the ground, I couldn’t shake this wierd feeling listening to the whirr of the wings. DUH. For a long time last year, everything was dominated by the plane: food, mail, communiques, Patient transports (to “real hospital” in Kenya), some medicines, strange things like cotton swabs, and needles….” For quite a few minutes I was right there again….this was enough memory. Not time to go back, yet.

tax return is

supposedly coming to the bank today. I will then put it into savings and if I count ALL my cash, have a need for 1K.
Well, its not great, but it isn’t exactly shabby either, despite the fact that I am about to spend a lot of it in the next couple of months!

Walking

70 minutes.

I am actually restless, because I am on Plan B and not running. So this morning after I finish, I am going to try to do some non leg exersise, such as crunches….
Perhaps this will help, as some of my co-workers are finind me a bit too energetic….

Had a good moment yesterday

Most of us in the ED hate to see babies come in, especially if they are sick, because then all we can do are things that generally make them scream and then the parents get upset as well…and on it goes.
But yesterday, I had to get blood from a 4 month old and surprisingly, she didn’t cry. So, I suppose my sticking technique isn’t too bad for the moment anyway….

Collard Greens

Collard (also known as tree-cabbage or nonheading cabbage), is a cool-season vegetable green that is rich in vitamins and minerals. It grows better in warm weather and can tolerate more cold weather in the late fall than any other member of the cabbage family. Although collard is a popular substitute for cabbage in the Deep South, it can also be grown in northern areas because it is frost tolerant.
Info tid bit there for those who don’t know collards…

Had a cup of collards (2 servings)
A roma tomato
carrots (1.5 servings)
a nice Pink Lady apple
So 5.5 servings. Not too bad.
The collards were however, the best ever.

I have had a yogurt, a glass of OJ with calcium, and some cottage cheese. Now, I am actually eating peeps candy.
the yellow chicks. I’m eating their heads off first and then the bodies. Plan B has turned me into a marshmallow chick with sugar coating… Yuck!

I ran

for 33 minutes. I had to stop because it was painful to my left leg, and I overdressed, wearing a sweatshirt, as well as a long sleeved shirt and an ndershirt (It was cold when I started)
I’m hoping it will improve soon, since I feel sooo slow, and tired.

Plan B

Once upon a time, Del Rey published three novels by Steve Miller and Sharon Lee. These books, collectively known as the Liaden series, were full of shooting, being shot at, running away, suddenly pulling new psychic powers out of one’s ear to avoid being shot, and lots of whimsical dialog and passionate kissing in between the shooting bits. And giant turtles.

Plan B sort of worked, sort of didn’t. I thinkI need to practice it for a few days straight. So, onwards Plan B 2.0
Grrr. :(

had been doing well on this

but I have 2 phone calls to make and to be honest, I am putting them off. I can’t even find my phone, which has been fine. Actually three phone calls…

1. call dog people, have them pick out dog because I can’t get there until late april and I had first pick, so that sort of messes up everyone else. Big and golden and friendly is all I hope for.

2. Call Landlord and ask them to watch out for my furniture arrival. The stuff in boxes its fine to sit outside until it rains, luckily my landlord seems v. cool….

3. call the bank and tell them that indeed my furniture purcahse wasn’t fraud, it was just me getting furniture.

Otherwise for today all I need to do is to try to run, sleep and go to work again…

Plan B

is going well. I got up to take some Motrin, and it does noe scream and protest so much when walking, but I can still feel the strange pain. We will see in the morning if Plan B was a success.

Lest anyone wonder, these are not my feet.

not happening

I intended to count only the cash from savings. Now, if I count ALL cash, I need about 2K. :( Most I think I can managed ia to save one more K before May 1. AH well. I did find a penny today, and I do have a tax return coming…
maybe. Maybe I’ll find 1K worth of Pennies. I think everything could be possible

SO Plan B

says no walking, but I had already walked 45 minutes today at a moderate pace, this is how I figured out that the leg was not improving as much as I’d have hoped.
Hopefully plan B will work.

Plan B

The left leg didn’t improve. Actually despite Motrin, Ice and no walking, it seems to have remained irritated. :(
Plan b. 24 hours of rest. ice, moist heat , ibuprofen…calming thoughts.

think I might have figured something out...

about my leg. The hard cement floors here in the hospital are really taking a toll on my muscles. I’m going to work shorter amounts here, and try to make it up with walking and running on softer surfaces. Maybe, I can do this?

the happy Beet

In Honor of Adventurina/Rosie, I decided to have beets tonight…
Actually it was vegetable heaven.
a cup of beets.
a cup of salad (Greens, onion, some carrot slivers, and some cukes, that funny “baby” corn)
broccoli
an apple
a half a cup of carrots

For dairy: Yogurt, Milk (Oh How I love your creamy goodness, milk…my friend for life), and a slice of cheddar.
Avoided the beautiful sugar cookies made by the nice co-worker.
