Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

- The Robots.

80's movie night...

My sister T and I had an 80’s movie night this weekend. We watched:

The Gremlins – much funnier than I remembered.
The Goonies
Footloose – awesome!

Not great movies – but loads of fun!

Live a more spiritual life. (read all 2 entries…)
Little steps on the path to living a spiritual life...

I’m going to build myself a small shrine. A place where I can meditate and reflect.

spend more time with family and friends
This weekend....

I caught up with an old friend who is visiting from Hong Kong (took me 4 hours to travel to the city and back for lunch, but was worth it).

J and I made lunch for my best friend and her husband (then we drank heaps of wine and played pictionary – fun!)

My sister came over and we had an 80s movie night.

I went to the Royal Easter Show with my sister.

see the best in others and in myself
Just having a look at this goal

and thinking about how I am going to be able to say that I have been successful in achieving this.

I think I might start a little note book and every day I will write something that is good about another person or about me.

Yeah, that ought to do it.

complete the IMC course online (read all 3 entries…)
Really annoyed with myself over this one....

It’s three weeks in to the course and I have barely done any of the course work or practical exercises.

This is something I really want to do so I am not sure why I am procrastinating. I think it is just me being lazy!

Will do better this week.

get ready for work the night before (read all 4 entries…)
I've been sticking to this goal...

and it has made getting ready for work in the early mornings so much easier.

That being said, I know I could do much better. I could get myself prepared for the week ahead on the weekends. That would give me a little more time in the evenings too.

At the moment, it is a bit of a rushed effort as I am tired by the end of the day and don’t want to bother.

I need to get more organised!!!!

Maybe I will give it a go this afternoon.

join a book club
I've joined a book club!

and the first book I am reading for the club is:

‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ by Mary Ann Shaffer.

I am always so picky about what I read, so this is a great opportunity to read books I normally wouldn’t choose for myself.

keep a dream journal
I've bought a beautiful journal....

now just need to start recording my dreams (and I’ve been having some really interesting ones lately).

be more confident (read all 2 entries…)

I am still the same anxious, nervous person I have always been. I don’t know why I have this need to apologize for who I am. I am uncomfortable in my own skin. I just never feel good enough. Smart enough. Interesting enough – and it is so limiting. It stops me from enjoying other people and makes my life smaller.

I recognize this in myself – now I just need to find a way to break this pattern of thought/behavior.

And that is something I will start working on.

complete a 7k run in 2011
I've really got to...

get started on my running program if I’m going to reach this goal by the end of the year. eeek!

I did a 20 minute run/walk this week and couldn’t believe how heavy I felt, like I was running in concrete sneakers.

watch less tv (read all 6 entries…)
This goal is still going pretty well

However, I still wander in from work, or wherever and switch the TV on. It’s a bad habit, it’s easy, it’s comfortable.

Not that I watch a lot, still probably only an hour a day. I need to try and make different choices. Maybe for one day this week I will leave the TV off and read a book, or draw.

The Royal Easter Show...

Yesterday my sister and I went to the RES and had an absolute ball. We arrived when the gates opened and proceeded to run around like a couple of little kids for about 10 hours.

We patted goats, pigs and lizards and watched our favorite dog win a blue ribbon at the dog show. We rode the giant slippery dip and raced each other to the finish (T one), got soaked on the Pirate’s Revenge and laughed ourselves silly on the dodgem cars. We ate show food and felt more than a little queasy at the end of the day.

A really fun day.

spend more time with my mum (read all 5 entries…)
Spent last weekend

at mum and dads place. Had a great time, can’t think of the last time I slept in my old bedroom. Mum and I just stayed at home and chatted on the Saturday, then a big day of shopping at the local markets.

Spent way too much money, but had lots of fun doing it and picked up some great things at the trash and treasure.

I think mum and dad had a nice weekend too. I’m going to try and go and stay at least once a month.

write more letters (read all 3 entries…)
Today I subscribed to a letter writing service...

In mid June I will recieve a newsletter which will allow me to choose interesting correspondents.

I will send my details to – so hopefully someone might choose to write to me.

I wonder who I might meet!

TWO: Meet Me in St Louis (Vincente Minnelli) 1944

What a charming movie! I didn’t expect to enjoy this movie as much as I did as I am not really a fan of musicals. So, St Louis came as a bit of a surprise. The movie has a fantastic score and the songs blend seamlessly with the story, weaving from one season to the next. Autumn is a highlight. Perfection!

Just about to head off to see my mum....

hopefully just a day of relaxing and catching up.

White Rabbit

Visited the most amazing gallery this week. The White Rabbit. Contemporary Chinese art-work.

Beautiful gallery space, inspiring art work (sculpture, photography, film, painting, prints). Oh, and the most beautiful chinese tea house. So wonderful to have such a great new gallery in our city.

have more fun (read all 2 entries…)
I need to lighten up....

and stop being so serious. Stop worrying about the future and dwelling on mistakes I have made in the past.

Why can’t I just relax and have fun? I’m like a tightly wound spring. & I am just so hard on myself (I really think this is a self confidence issue).

This weeks mission – find new ways to just be silly and have fun.

read one book a month from my own collection (read all 4 entries…)
The Red Book: A Deliciously Unorthodox Approach to Igniting Your Divine Spark by Sera Beak

This book is aimed at younger women and is an excellent introduction to the world of female spirituality (I wish this book had been around when I was younger).

I enjoyed this book and I will take inspiration from what the author has presented.

spend more time with my mum (read all 5 entries…)

Mum and dad came down to visit yesterday and we did some gardening together. It was kind of hard work, but it was lovely to spend some time together and share a laugh and the front garden looks so much better.
