- What surprised me: I was surprised by an unexpected gift of flowers and that I was feeling dramatically better this morning.
- What moved me: I was moved by the tears of a stranger and by the care of many people for my health.
- What inspired me: I was inspired by the story of two young adults who – early in establishing their careers – want to make sure that what they do in their lives contributes to society.

Today, I’ve continued to be sick without much improvement and I have a lot of work to do with a hard deadline. What is there to be thankful for?
- My wife, who has been kind and solicitous
- The fact that I have been well enough to do my work, albeit slowly
- Peppermint tea
- Concern and good wishes of health from several people I’ve been in touch with.
- A job where I won’t get fired for being out sick
“We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.”
-Fredrick Koeing

When you start looking around for things to feel grateful for, you realize that they are everywhere! I am sick today, but still can find plenty of room for gratitude. Today, I am grateful for:
- Knowing how to cook
- Frozen puff-pastry
- Maple syrup
- People who care about improving neighborhoods
- People who work with inner city youth
- My immune system, which is fighting off this nasty virus
- Tea
- Artificial sweetener – the sweetness I crave without the sugar that I don’t need
- The nearby convenience store that has just about everything
